The Sims: Superstar[edit | edit source]

Velvet Ropes
"By day I'm a systems analyst, but at night I work the door at Club Códe," says doorman R.B. Turr. "The biggest problem is keeping the mob from rushing the door, but with velvet ropes, I can really intimidate them." All ropes are made from the finest red velvet, supported by beautiful, brass posts. Features Rope-Link barrier hitching. "It's not just the ropes," explains R.B., "It's the velvet. Fun, status, beauty...that's what clubbing is all about."

Velvet ropes were first introduced in The Sims: Superstar. They served primarily as decorations, but could function as fences. If two segments were placed adjacent to each other, a rope would automatically be formed to link the two posts together, allowing a "chain" to be formed.

The Sims 2: Nightlife[edit | edit source]

Relvet Vope Fence
This velvet rope is the perfect tool for setting up a fashionable night-club or discoteque anywhere, anytime or just making your friends follow predetermined paths through your home. Keep the trendy folks in and the not-so-trendy folks out or spruce up an existing space and wait for its cool factor to explode.

The Relvet Vope Fence was introduced in The Sims 2: Nightlife as a fence in build mode. It functioned similarly to the one in The Sims: Superstar, except that it occupied the edges of the tile rather than the center. Other than that, it functions similarly to every other fence in the game.

The Sims 3: Late Night[edit | edit source]

Barrier ropes in The Sims 3: Late Night served more functions than the ropes in previous games. Barrier ropes are used to restrict Sims from a room or band venue. When placed on a community lot, a barrier rope summons a bouncer who protects against Sims attempting to trespass.

The Small Barrier Rope and Large Barrier Rope are in the community objects section in build mode. To set permissions, enter build mode and hold Shift and Ctrl while left-clicking on the rope. Setting the Set Access Level option to "Limited" allows the player to customize the access restrictions. The player can customize the celebrity level, occult option or bribe amount, controlling the demographic that can enter the bar.

In The Sims 4, The Velvet Rope is a fence with no special functions. However, a gate can be attached to it, which can be locked to restrict access to an area.
