Bob Newbie was an odd child who insisted on speaking only in short, step-by-step sentences. He transformed this quirk into a job skill when he lent his talents to the company "Map This". Famous for helpful retorts like "Turn left" and "watch out for that moose," he soon became a legend in both mapping and verbal instruction.
Robert "Bob" Newbie, Jr., is a Sim who makes his first appearance (along with Betty Newbie) in the player tutorial in The Sims. After the completion of the tutorial, he can be played like any other Sim. Due to the in-game chronology in The Sims series, he appears as a teen in The Sims 3, living with his parents Robert and Mags Newbie in Riverview. Bob is not alive in The Sims 2, though he is present in the family tree of the Broke family. Aside from main title releases, Bob appears in several console games. He and Betty are some of the most popular Sims of all time. Because of that, two families appear to be based on them; these are the Pancakes family and the Andrews family.
Bob had a hard time adjusting to life in Riverview until he met his new best friend, Betty Simovitch. When he is not spending time with her, however, he mostly spends time lounging around indoors, leaving his parents concerned.[confirmation needed] It is said that his father disapproves of his laziness, though Bob's relationship with his parents are great ones. He is a lot thinner in this game and has light brown hair and no facial hair. Bob's face is almost identical to his father, Robert's. However some details have been customized. At the start of the game, Bob is 13 days from becoming a young adult.
Even though the chronology of the series places Betty Simovitch as his future wife, if left alone with story progression on, he may form relationships with other women. However, he can easily be directed to start a romance with Betty if the player desires, due to their high friendship level.
Life leading up to The Sims 2 Pets (console)[edit | edit source]
Bob Newbie appears in The Sims 2 Pets (console) wearing something similar to what he wore in The Sims 3. He lives with Betty and their dog Buddy Newbie. He starts out unemployed. As in other games he appears in, he is quiet and a loner. However, it is possible that this may be a different Bob Newbie because he looks nothing like the way he does in any of the other Sims games.
Bob Newbie appears in The Sims (console) wearing the same clothes as in The Sims. He and his wife Betty Newbie live in 7 Sim Avenue. They both share a 20+ relationship, so it is unknown if they are really married. Neither one has a job, but it may be best to get them into the Military Career Track, since they are both very active. He likes to read books and water the plants, but doesn't like noise - he always turns down the TV and Stereo.
Bob Newbie is one of the pre-made Sims in The Sims, and was one of the tutorial characters. He and his wife Betty had just moved into the neighborhood at the start of the game. They are inhabitants of Neighborhood 1 and live at 7 Sim Lane. They often make up the welcome wagon. Bob is bald, but has a mustache and full beard. He is pudgy, and starts out wearing dingy, greasy clothing.[n 1] Bob likes to spend time reading. Although he is married to her, his relationship with Betty are only at the friendship level.
A different version of Bob appeared in Japanese copies of the game, with a fit physique, tan skin, black hair and a goatee (almost identical in appearance to MAHUIZOH "Jimmy" Maximus, differing only by his mint green shirt and blue pants).
According to SimEnhancer, Bob Newbie was the first created Sim in Neighborhood 1.
By the time the storyline has caught to The Sims 2, he and his wife Betty are already deceased, though he left a daughter, Brandi Broke to raise her family. She is the mother of two sons, Dustin Broke and Beau Broke, and is pregnant with her third son at the start of The Sims 2. She is the widow of Skip Broke. Bob, his wife, his parents, and his in-laws can be resurrected with SimPE. He also has an unused beard and hairstyle that are very similar to available ones. Storyline pictures show him with black hair, and SimPE shows he has genetics for black hair, which different from The Sims and The Sims 3 where his hair is brown and light brown respectively. His counterpart in the tutorial for The Sims 2 is Bob Sim.
Interestingly, in one of the story-telling images, it shows Bob giving Betty a massage, also clearly showing that he lost weight, as he is no longer fat. According to his age data in SimPE Bob had 33 days left in the elderlife stage when he died.
Resurrection tip
This Sim has no character data and cannot be resurrected in-game. For more information, read this guide.
Bob lives here with his roommate, Betty. But, they are very different from the usual light-skinned Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie. Whether they are canonical in their appearance, as by the time of The Sims 2, both Bob and Betty are deceased, or they are entirely different people, is unknown.
An official Maxisrecreation of Bob, Betty, and their dog Buddy from the console version of The Sims 2: Pets was uploaded to the The Sims 4 Gallery on February 15, 2019, marking the 19th anniversary of The Sims. Bob is unemployed, has no skills, and is 22 days from becoming an adult.
Bob Newbie is also an available character on SimCity 4. (Note: The selectable people like him are sort of like the NPCs of The Sims 2. They can be selected, and you can change their names, signs, and houses. However, the houses are extremely limited, and you can't play as them.)
