Spellcasting

A witch turning Sims into toads.

Spellcasting is an interaction available to magic-wielding Sims, such as witches in The Sims 2: Apartment Life and The Sims 3: Supernatural and spellcasters in The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. In The Sims: Makin' Magic and The Sims 3 Store, this interaction is tied to objects rather than life states.

The Sims: Makin' Magic[edit | edit source]

In The Sims: Makin' Magic, any Sim who owns a wand can cast spells, which can be acquired from the Mystery Man. Sims can either travel to Magic Town to ask for a wand from him directly, or receive a wand when he delivers a magical package to households when they first move into a lot. Sims must charge their wands with spells at cauldrons before they can use them.

The Sims 2: Apartment Life[edit | edit source]

In The Sims 2: Apartment Life, the ability to cast spells is now tied to the witch life state. Sims can be turned into witches by any other witch that knows the "Magus Mutatio" spell. Usually only the NPC high witches know this spell in a newly generated neighborhood. Witches must gather or brew reagents in their personal cauldrons before they are able to cast spells, and the spells they know depend on their alignment, which can be viewed in their personal spell books.

The Sims 3[edit | edit source]

Lady Ravendancers Goth's Book o' Spells is an object from The Sims 3 Store which can be bought for 395 Simpoints. Sims can learn a variety of spells to cast from it, which have the potential to fail.

Sims can once again become witches in The Sims 3: Supernatural, either by drinking a transforming potion, being born as a witch, or being created as a witch in Create a Sim. They cannot properly cast spells until they reach level 2 of the secret spellcasting skill. Until then, their only option is the "Play With Magic" self-interaction.

The Sims 4: Realm of Magic[edit | edit source]

In The Sims 4: Realm of Magic, Sims can become a spellcaster through any other spellcaster that knows the "Rite of Ascension" spell. Usually only the NPC sages know this spell in The Magic Realm, but it can be learned.

Spellcasters can learn and cast spells from the three schools of magic, Practical, Mischief and Untamed. Learned spells can be reviewed in a spellcaster's personal spell book. Almost every spell can be learned without assistance, but there are "Ultimate Spells" for each school of magic that can only be learned from being tutored by a sage.

Spellcasting can be improved by rising in spellcaster ranks and purchasing perks. A spellcaster's charge meter will fill up if they repeatedly cast spells, which will grant them more experience and allow them to do more powerful magic. However, they are at risk of developing curses and becoming overcharged, which may kill them.

If Get Famous is installed, a spellcaster's reputation might be negatively affected if they cast spells in public.
