Welcome![edit | edit source]

Welcome to chapter 8 of A Pleasant Story. Now there's a slightly miserable setting at the moment... so, enjoy!

"Not Fair"[edit | edit source]

Angela hadn't seen Richie since Friday. The death of John Hutchworth, his father, had damaged him. He and his father were really close. A work friend was killed as well. Someone named Parker Langerak. The following morning, Kaylynn resigned from her maid duties. When Daniel Pleasant asked why she was leaving, she simply murmured: "Family business".

Monday morning

Angela clambered onto the bus with Lilith. Angela looked up the aisle to see Richie in an awful state. He was looking out of the window. His deep brown hair, which was getting long and was starting to curl, was sticking up unevenly. Stubble also protruded from his cheeks. Angela felt sorry for him: his dad's funeral was only yesterday. She sat down next to him and waited a while before gently reaching out to hold his hand. A gentle squeeze from Richie showed he had acknowledged she was there. When the bus stopped at the Dreamer house, Richie stopped looking out of the window to realise Angela looking slightly upset and hurt. Richie felt awful- he didn't want his new girlfriend to feel unloved. He gently moved forward and brushed the hair out of her eyes. She looked up. Richie noticed the look of hurt had vanished. The bus ride became more enjoyable after that. The two sat in silence for the journey, but their feelings for each other were obviously very strong.

On the way back home, Angela asked a simple question. "When's your birthday, Richie?"

"It's tomorrow."

"Why didn't you tell me?" Richie gave her an it's-not-really-important-at-the-moment look. "Richie... I was going to get you a present and stuff... And it will be your first birthday in SimCity. Surely that's important?"

Richie softened. "You're right. I'm sorry for being so hard on you, Angie" Angela looked touched. Nobody had called her "Angie" before. "It's alright." When she realised her stop was here, she got up, gently kissed Richie on the cheek, and left.

Marty scanned the park, only to see Leona sitting on her own. He sucked in a deep breath and walked over. Marty didn't like talking to people. He sat down next to her.

"You're Lee, right?" She nodded. "I'm Marty Lothario, Richie's friend..."

"Leave me alone" Marty looked hurt. He wanted to cheer her up, not be told to go away. "I kind of know what you're going through." he offered.

"No. No you don't. You've grown up with all your family."

"Not all of them. My grandmother has practically vanished off of the earth. I get mocked because of that. As well as the seven year gap between me and my uncle."

"It's just not fair, Marty" she whispered. "It's just not fair."

"I know it isn't." he replied, unsure of what to do. He all of a sudden felt really nervous. Why? A simple thought occurred to him: I like her... but does she feel the same?

A sixteen year old Richie walked up to the door of the Goth mansion. He knocked on the door, only to be answered by Mortimer Goth. "Hello there, lad! I'm Mortimer Goth"

"Nice to meet you, Mr Goth. I'm Richie Hutchworth."

"Pardon me for asking, but I recognise that accent... You're from England, aren't you?"

"Yes I am."

"Well come in. Donnie and Marty are expecting you. They are in the kitchen." The house looked dark. When Richie turned into the kitchen, the lights flicked on.

"Surprise!"

Richie's mouth hung open, unsure of what to say. Angela bounded up to Richie and planted a kiss on his lips. "Happy Birthday!" she said. Everyone came around the corner: Daniel, Mary-Sue, Cassandra, Don, the Lothario Twins, Alexander, Darren, Mum, Leona, Mona, Dustin, Dirk and Lilith. The party was great! Richie no longer felt as miserable as he did. He made more introductions and struggled when it came to meet the geeky-looking Alexander. "I'm Alexander" the young man said

"Richie"

"Pleased to make your aquaintance, Richie." Pleased to make your what? Richie reached into his back pocket for his dictionary. "You're English." Alex stated. Richie struggled to register that Alex had spoken in Richie's native language. "How?! What..."

"My dad taught me. He's from England. He moved here at the age of five to Sunset Valley."

"Where's that?"

"You're in it. Twenty years ago, it changed to Pleasantview. Cassie was engaged to Don. I was three. Cassandra's my sister by the way."

"I see"

The night ended perfectly. Richie and Angela did do some serious making out, but, that's love. Richie had read Angela's mind. Dustin and Mona spent the night becoming really good friends. When she had to leave, she stood up, ruffled Dustin's hair and left. Next time I see her, I'll ask thought Dustin.
