Oak Rose
Biography
A man of few words who has read every book in the forest, Oak knows everything it's possible for a PlantSim to know (except how to talk to young people, that is). He loves order and tradition, and lives in fear of either being disrupted.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Oak was spawned shortly before his sister, Willow, matured. From the moment he was born he has been learning as much as he can about everything possible, so would often be found badgering his relatives to read to him. He was always popular with the elders due to his innate sense of duty and blind respect for authority. After maturing, Oak became the family's archivist, reading and recording every scrap of history he could find, but he still found time to help out whoever needed a hand.

After a long period of study, Oak was the first of his generation to spawn. He was blessed with a son, Reed, who was cared for in the most part by his aunt. Oak proved himself to be a somewhat distant parent, but nevertheless he cares deeply about his descendants. When Willow became the family's leader, Oak took on his role as deputy, and thoroughly enjoys the ceremony and ritual this requires.

In the Fanon[edit | edit source]

WARNING: THIS SECTION CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Oak's first role depicted in the story was leading the Spring Council. Despite his position as deputy, Oak has taken the lead at every meeting he has shared with his sister as his knowledge of tradition is unmatched. However, he must still rely on her to deal with disruption, as in the case of Larch and Reed. Sensing tension, Oak expressed his anxiety about Larch to Willow, but with her words of reassurance (and his own fear of confrontation) he decided at that time to suppress his concerns.

Nevertheless, his worries continued to grow, particularly after Lily's sudden 'illness'. Oak continued to keep this to himself, until the night that Larch approached him with questions about PlantSim reproduction. Unable to ascertain or unwilling to accept the motives behind these questions, but nonetheless suspicious, Oak repeated the 'official line' on the subject: PlantSims are only capable of spawning their young. Immediately afterwards he informed Willow, who was shrewd enough to guess the situation and requested Oak's assistance in her plan to defend against potential dangers on the way. He was instructed to give Lily a full medical examination. Although he performed this duty as methodically as ever, a lack of medical records relating to pregnancy meant a confirmed diagnosis was impossible.

With a lack of concrete evidence, Oak attempted desperately to convince himself that everything would turn out to be a misunderstanding and it would all blow over.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Oak suffers from a weak heart, and often slightly resents Moss's little 'experiments', which have a tendency to blow up during the testing phase.
  • After the incident involving the grill, Oak has since refused point blank to comment on Larch's ability as Nurturer, a silence which Reed claims 'speaks louder than words'.
