Ophera Maylenderton (née Harding-Olson, formerly Hunt) is a SimNationion Super Spy. She is most notable for being the third wife of Thatcher Maylenderton.

Ophera appears in The Sims 2, The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. Her story remains virtually unchanged in The Sims 2 and 3, although she is more of a background character in both games. Her stories in The Sims 2 and 3 mostly focused on her adjusting to life as the spouse of two very different men, and the Sims 3 sees her fulfilling her wish to become a good mother. In both The Sims 2 and 3 she gives birth to one child, a boy named Ryan.

One thing that has followed her through her three appearances is her affection for long, red gowns.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Ophera was born to John Harding, and Angela Olson of Twinbrook, SimNation.

Ophera Harding first met Ronald Hunt and Thatcher Maylenderton while studying Physical Edication at Sims University. The three became friends and became something of minor celebrities on campus due towards their friendly and positive attitudes to everyone around. Ophera only went for one semester, but during that time she began a relationship with Ronald that would last for 14 years. She did not graduate from University.

Ophera moved in with Ronald and Thatcher to Thatcher's home in Twinbrook shortly before Thatcher became Mayor of the town. Later on Thatcher left for Hidden Springs after he was called upon by Catarina Vanderburg to help run her reelection campaign. Coincidentally, Ronald was offered a luxurious job as a head chef at a restaurant in Hidden Springs, at the same time and moved with him. Not wanting to give up her relationship with Ronald, Ophera decided to go with the two men, even though she already had a job in law enforcement and plenty of friends in town. Ronald chose a mint green mcmansion for their new home that greatly disgusted Ophera. Immediately after the move she and Ronald got married in a small ceremony with only a few people (including Thatcher) in attendance. She continued to rise slowly through the ranks in her Law Enforcement career, making best friends with her Partner, Sebastian Vanderburg.

Marital Problems and Divorce[edit | edit source]

The first signs of her relationship with Ronald not working came way back when she first started college with him. Ophera decided not to finish her degree after her her first semester, so Ronald and Thatcher went without her and finished theirs. The two men rented a house together on campus and were seen bringing home dates each evening. Ronald could not stay committed to Ophera and cheated on her many times during his final two semesters in college. This led to Thatcher not speaking to Ronald during the entire duration of those semesters, as he was best friends with Ophera. Despite his anger at Ronald, Thatcher never told Ophera what went on during those two semesters, not even when they married 16 years later.

After they married, Ronald had a few one night stands with multiple women. Ophera heard rumors, but believed her husband when he said nothing was going on. However, Ronald had since began a passionate affair with Lonnie Pertridge, even going as far as to say he was going to divorce Ophera to marry her. Ophera caught them in their affair one day on accident when she came home from work. She angrily consulted a divorce lawyer about her options, but ultimetly decided to try to salvage her relationship with Ronald. She turned to Thatcher for comfort, and their relationship grew stronger. By now Thatcher had already been married to and divorced from Jessica Maylenderton, and had just married Ella Carlisle. While Ophera and Jessica didn't get along, she and Ella did and became friends. Ophera liked having another woman to talk to about these things, but enjoyed having a friend in Thatcher as well.

Her friendship with Ella came crashing down less than a year after Ella and Thatcher married. Ophera saw Thatcher and Ronald fighting outside Thatcher's house (Ronald and Thatcher were neighbors at this time), and demanded to know what was going on. Thatcher had just caught Ronald and Ella in bed together and  Thatcher was violently ending his longstanding friendship with Ronald because of it. Although it was the second time Ronald had publicly cheated on her, Ophera stayed married to him despite having no real ties to him (they had no children and she had her own money).

Ophera and Ronald relationship initially looked bright as he promised to never cheat on her again. He remained fully monogamous for over a year, but then went back to his old ways. He had a one night stand with the maid, Lucy, which Ophera found out about. Having had enough, Ophera finally filed for divorce, which was granted after less than four months. Having no place to go, she moved in with Thatcher, who agreed to sell his famous mock-tudor house so they wouldn't have to live directly in front of Ronald anymore. Immediately after the divorce, Ronald married Lucy and had two children with her.

Marriage to Thatcher Maylenderton[edit | edit source]

Before her divorce, Ophera went to Thatcher for advice and the two (in the heat of the moment) ended up kissing. Ophera apologized and rushed back home, where she then filed for divorce from Ronald. She asked Thatcher if she could stay with him while the divorce was being finalized and he said yes. Five days after the divorce was finalized the two decided to go to Ronald's wedding to Lucy, which everyone thought was strange. Ophera, visibly uncomfortable, got drunk and ended up making out with Thatcher at the reception, but regretted it the next day.

Embarrassed over her actions, Ophera refused to talk to Thatcher for over a two months while she looked for a new place to live. During this time Thatcher had an affair with a married woman, which Ophera thought was deplorable. Eventually Thatcher got her to start talking and they both apologized to each other. However, they acknowledged their attraction to one another and began quietly dating, despite Ophera not being ready to date yet. Ophera was initially uneasy about the relationship, with Thatcher now being the de-facto Leader of Hidden Springs, and his romances being widely publicized in the media. The two bonded quickly though, and eventually got married. Thatcher had invited Ronald to the wedding, but Ophera went and uninvited him. Thatcher's ex-wife, Jessica Colby was there, much to Ophera's surprise and disapproval. The two remained married for 18 years.

When Ryan became a child, Thatcher began an affair with Jessica. The affair ended when Ophera joined politics as Jessica's secretary. A second affair five years later between the two resulted in the birth of Jessica and Thatcher's illegitimate child, Wesly, who was given up for adoption. Ophera never found out about these affairs, although she had her suspicions.

Motherhood and Political Career[edit | edit source]

Soon after the wedding, an emergency election was put in place after the death a Catarina Vanderburg. Thatcher and his running mate, Jessica Colby, won the election, thus making Ophera the First Lady of Hidden Springs. A year and a half later she became pregnant with her first and only child, a boy named Ryan. Thatcher and Ophera then moved from their stately home of less than two years  to a craftsman home in the middle of town, unknowingly right nest to Jessica Colby. Ophera quit her job after Ryan's birth to teach him all his toddler skills. The two remained very close until her death. Thatcher taught Ryan to drive, but the two never really got along until Ryan became an adult.

Ophera had her suspicions in regards to Thatcher and Jessca's relationship. Instead of calling him out on it, she decided to join the political career as Jessica's secretary in order to keep an eye on the two. Ophera thought she was very observant, but failed to notice either of the two affairs that went on under her nose. She eventually rose to the position of Local Representative then died suddenly.

Death and Aftermath[edit | edit source]

Ophera died of a heart attack after coming home from work. Her death left Thatcher devastated and was the main reason he moved in with Jessica Colby after she sold Thatcher and Ophera's house. Thatcher then married Ophera's best friend Blake Grayson, but divorced after less than a year. The death of Ophera caused further estrangement between now adult Ryan and Thatcher, but they made up before Ryan's first child, Thurgood was born. Thatcher eventually remarried Jessica and moved to Appaloosa Plains with her, Ryan, Ryan's wife Emily (Hunt) and their two children. They were married for 18 years before Thatcher's death. Thatcher never forgot Ophera and regretted having cheated on her multiple times. Ophera's death caused Thatcher to change his ways and he fully devoted himself to his grandchildren and wife, thus finally learning not to take things for granted.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Despite both her husbands cheating on her, Ophera herself never engaged in any type of affair with anyone while she was married.
  • Ophera was afraid to be alone, which is why it took so long for her to divorce Ronald, and why she never divorced Thatcher even though she thought he was cheating on her (she was right).
  • Unlike Thatcher and to some extent Ronald, Ophera's story never focused much on her job.Thatcher wanted to be Leader, and Ronald wanted to be a five-star Celebrity Chef.
  • Ophera loved Thatcher, but not as much as she loved Ronald when they were married. She never fully trusted Thatcher, and thus could not give all her love to him. Thatcher, on the other hand, desperately loved Ophera from the moment they first met. She was easily his greatest love, but he couldn't remain faithful to her due to his commitment issues.
  • Ophera was pretty much the only "good" character of the second generation of the Maylenderton story. Thatcher and Ronald were serial cheaters, Ronald and his new wife, Lucy were very materialistic, Jessica Colby cheated on her husband with Thatcher and got pregnant with Thatcher's baby, along with being a major hypocrite. Ophera was none of these things and just wanted to be happy.
  • Ophera was the second major sim to die before reaching Elder status, the first being Thatcher's mother, Diana.
  • Like Thatcher and Ronald, Ophera had a Sims 2 counterpart in 2012 before her appearance in The Sims 3. In that version she and Thatcher dated as teens, but then married Ronald as an adult, thus creating the animosity between Thatcher and Ronald. In both versions of the story Ophera is Thatcher's third spouse and dies before becoming an elder.
  • All my Sims 3 sims have an official color associated to them. Her official color is red.
