XXV was born on a distant planet into an alien society as the child of a Birth Queen and an unknown drone. When examined for his skill set he was found to have reasonable intelligence, above average physical capabilities and a high level of disregard for other life forms. Taking this into consideration, the commanders placed him in the 'harvester' division, a job which involves collecting mammalian samples for scientific analysis, with a Sim being the most highly prized catch.
XXV and his ship were stationed to watch over a largely uninhabited area of SimNation, something which he privately resents a great deal, as until the arrival of Cherry Rose he had very little to do.
It has been pointed out that his name spells out the date of Christmas Day 1979. This is merely an interesting coincidence and has no relevance to the character.
