I've heard that several chat frequenters don't find the emoticons fit with the ones we type, e.g. :( with , or :o with . I think all those emoticons and smileys need to be replaced. With more EPs released, more icons appear in the game and definitely there must be some smileys that will suit the typed emoticons. Here, I'd like to know what other people think for the most suitable emoticons for the chat.

Here's the example of possible change:

Smiley Old icon New icon

The full list (or collection, more properly) of TS3 images can be seen in here. That's not the complete collection of images though, those are just some of them. If you find any suitable in-game images but they're not here, tell me and I'll look for it.

Or, there's one more alternative... We scrap the idea where :) will switch into any emoticon, but instead, we'll use something like *happy*. What do you say?

On an unrelated note, we do implement emoticon system in wiki-editing by using templates. You might want to check out there.

Discussion[edit source]

I'm not sure if replacing :) with *happy* would be too beneficial as everyone knows the raw emoticons anyway. I do however like the look of the proposed replacements, so I'm in full support of that. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 17:49, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

I don't really see the need for them to be changed myself, personally I don't like the chat emotes as a whole anyway. That said, I won't stand in the way if other people prefer these ones. ђ talk 21:35, November 20, 2012 (UTC)
Some people might prefer the raw smiley like :) rather than emoticons, some might prefer the opposite. In the end we just either keep it that way or do the other way, maybe in case some people request for it? Otherwise, yeah, I'll say we'd better keep it that way. Just an idea though. I personally think we should change the emoticons as they are getting a bit old. I don't think we should change the code (like D: or :P) as everyone knows them and they're quick to type. BakeryChaz ~ (let's have a chat!) 10:55, November 26, 2012 (UTC)
Change would be good, seeing that the old emoticons didn't really looked like they expressed much anyway. I think this is better! :) Make with the changes! Star-Talk 20:43, November 26, 2012 (UTC)
Well then... We should decide to change which with which, as there are many options for one smiley too, the above is the sample. If you have a good emoticon idea, try attaching the image here. Like, have you ever typed >:(? I kind of think either or will suit it better. Nikel Talk Vote! 12:04, November 27, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah you could do that Nikel, Yeah That sounds cool and I think the Out of sorts is best. Devdevdev (talk) 18:31, November 29, 2012 (UTC)
I'll do that. Now, how about the rest? Hmm... Nikel Talk Vote! 16:00, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

I don't know the exact status of this thread and whether or not it constitutes as being dead yet so I'll merely comment rather than archive. I've replaced :D and :O on MediaWiki:Emoticons with one of the three images given for both options (feel free to change if neccessary) and I've noticed the other changes have also been implemented. Given there are a few listings with no proposed replacements, I'll keep this thread open for now with the assumption that some development will occur. If it is truly dead then another admin is welcome to archive as they see fit. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 22:30, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but I guess I people will just accept it as is. Otherwise, I'm sure someone will let know. Nikel Talk Vote! 09:18, December 19, 2012 (UTC)
