I think you should consider closing down the IRC Channel because it is old and nobody uses it. Everybody is on Discord. Having both might confuse people on what they should use.

Discord is more popular and that should be supported so I think it is time to End Of Life IRC and close it down.MarketingSimmer (talk) 14:03, July 21, 2019 (UTC)

You don't even use IRC, so why are you even advocating for its shutdown? Do you even know anything about IRC? Do you know the users who still use it? Do you know Ben?

Both the IRC channel and the Discord server are linked with a relay and there is still a small community of users that continue to use IRC. The argument that "nobody uses it" is wrong; it is still in use, and being "old" isn't a reason alone to shut it down. We have had no issues with people being confused about what they should use; nearly everyone we've encountered have been able to find the Discord server. And given all of these points above, shutting down the IRC channel really isn't going to make much of a difference; new users are still going to choose Discord over IRC and those who stick with IRC still have access to the Discord server through the relay. You are incredibly misinformed with your beliefs that the IRC channel is ancient. We've sunsetted the on-wiki chat feature for all of the reasons above, but the same cannot be said for the IRC channel. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:42, July 28, 2019 (UTC)

Lightly Support but we need a way for blocked users to request unblocks CassandraGothel911 (talk) 18:55, November 19, 2019 (UTC)
Oppose - I haven't seriously used IRC in ages, but I assure you there is absolutely no need for TSW IRC channel to be closed down. Besides, if there were any need for it to be closed down, I'm sure I'd have heard about it from those that frequent the channel. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 02:47, November 29, 2019 (UTC)
Oppose - Shutting down the wiki chat was a pretty easy move to make, since no one used it. By contrast, the IRC channel does still have active members. As k6ka mentioned, the IRC and Discord are connected via a relay bot (though at this exact moment the bot is down), so the contents of the IRC channel are visible from the Discord server via a dedicated channel, and text sent to that channel is visible in the IRC channel. There's really no reason to shut it down. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 23:31, December 2, 2019 (UTC)

If your relay bot that links the IRC Channel to Discord is down then it is not fit for purpose. It is also a testement that The Sims Wiki does not need IRC as it has Discord. I think the IRC Channel should still be closed down.MarketingSimmer (talk) 15:37, April 25, 2020 (UTC)

Firstly, who are you? You have not contributed anything to this wiki aside from dropping in occasionally on forum threads to make strange proposals and issue legal threats, all without understanding the context or the background or the history of the wiki, let alone without having participated on the wiki for anything. You don't use IRC and you don't appear to use Discord. Why are you trying to make decisions for us? Who are you? Are you a member of this community? No, you're not.
I am closing this thread, because there is clearly no consensus for it and you've made no attempts at addressing the criticisms of your arguments. In any case, you don't even contribute to this wiki, and I am quite convinced you are a troll. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 16:15, April 25, 2020 (UTC)
