Wikia Staff apparently removed the "Killing Off Must Watch Videos" feature - [1] [2].

Edit summary: Per terms of service

You must understand I'm a bit mystified. I now have to watch as that module sucks precious megabytes from my Internet connection! Apparently, it is against the TOS to remove unwanted extensions...? --k6ka (talk | contribs) 20:56, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Discussion[edit source]

I won't lie, I had a hunch that Wikia would catch on to this at some stage. Their TOS does disallow blocking ads and manipulating the user interface to impair functionality (I laugh at the thought of "impair"). In this case I suppose the latter applies here. In the past, Wikia have refused to disable extensions that were forced upon us on the basis of "we don't want it", hence why I used CSS in order to make this more flexible for us. I see that as long as we're hosted by Wikia, we're dealing with it whether we like it or not.

I'll look into making it a gadget of some kind. If anybody wants a quick fix, clicking this link then saving the page will remove that module for you on a personal level.

Okay I just made a gadget out of it, so that fix is no longer needed. Go to Special:Preferences, click the Gadgets tab then scroll down and tick the "No Must Watch videos" box. I'll try and sneak in a variable so it's automatically disabled for maybe at least registered users but for now, we'll have to enable it personally one-by-one.

Oh what a surprise, CSS functionality with gadgets is still broken. Yeah, you'll need my fix after all. Let's just pray I never have to update this, because it's going to be a nightmare to push to each individual CSS file. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 21:26, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

It's worth noting that this "feature" isn't being forced on all wikis... the Star Wars wiki (Wookieepedia) for instance doesn't have this feature. It might be worth talking to some of the admins there (for instance, Xd1358, who frequents our IRC channel) to see how they got around Wikia's mandate. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 04:03, June 22, 2014 (UTC)

Yes. We've already begun planning the demise of this unwanted gadget over at this thread. Until then, users can use the link Lab provided above. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 01:40, July 7, 2014 (UTC)
