Forum:Separating TS4 info from TS1/2/3
I have brought this discussion up before (you can find that discussion here), and the general consensus was in favour of a change to how information about Sims that appear in both the original universe (The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 etc) and The Sims 4 should be displayed. However, a specific way to display the information was not reached and therefore the topic was dropped. It has almost been two years since that topic, so I have decided to bring it up once again as no change has been made.
I am re-proposing what I proposed last time to display this information. In which you use a header that automatically links to a sub-page displaying information about a specific Sim from The Sims 4. I have recently been using this method on my own fanon pages on this Wiki. This best way to see how this method works is to look at one of my fan pages:
In my personal opinion, I think the method I use for my own Sims works greatly in separating the information. Some information in The Sims 4 directly contradicts information that has previously been established in the older games (aka the original universe). A prime example of this is the mother of the Caliente sisters, being Nighat Caliente in the original universe and now being Katrina Caliente in The Sims 4 universe (or the alternate universe - as the devs call it). So I think using a method to separate the information in The Sims 4 from the original universe will be beneficial to this wiki. Preferably, using the method I have proposed.

We would need to think of a way to incorporate categories into this new design, since this would probably create some strange duplicates that readers might not fully understand. I'm not too sure about using "Alternate universe" as a subpage name, since readers might be a bit confused by that, and they might think it was fanon. - I think Alternate universe tab is good idea than splitting article into a new page with same name but different game name. The layout on the fanon is similar like many article in resident evil wikia. I see this page for example: Chris Redfield. there is many information about the character there:
- Biography
- Development
- Gameplay
- Quotes
- Appearances
- Gallery
- Further notes
- Biography is the main page info where many category is placed. the other page is tagged only by 1 category with this format "(page name) subpages". example: Development page is only tagged by "development subpages" category and gameplay is only tagged by "gameplay subpages" category to avoid confusion.
- I think we can use their category format like "Character alternate universe subpages" category (or other better category name) to tag Alternate universe pages in sim wiki. Wiryawan310 (talk) 16:47, April 25, 2017 (UTC)
I'm going to perform threadcomancy on this dead-but-not-yet-archived thread, in response to the introduction of several Sims from The Sims 4: Get Famous. For instance, there's Holly Alto, who in no way resembles the original Holly Alto. There's also some older examples as well, such as weird zombie Bella from Lunar Lakes. I think the solution that JaseyJasee has proposed is potentially the way to go. If anything, I'd change the subpage names to be more clear as to what they're referring to (maybe "original timeline," "The Sims 4 timeline," etc). I'd be interested to know what K6ka means when referring to "strange duplicates" of categories - does that not already happen on Sim pages when Sims have different physical/personality features between games? I guess I don't really understand what was meant.

- I was referring to how, in the case of, say, Bella Goth, you would wind up having the "Female Sims" category having "Bella Goth/The Sims 1", "Bella Goth/The Sims 2", "Bella Bachelor/The Sims 3", and "Bella Goth/The Sims 4", which quickly fills up category pages and clutters them. I guess it's not really an issue that would bother a lot of people but it does cause category pages to fill up rather quickly. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:42, November 19, 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense. I would point out that you run into that issue in any instance where Sim biographies are split onto two or more pages, whether subpages (as is being proposed) or separate pages (as are sometimes used currently). That said, I'm not sure how big of a problem it would really be, and it might actually be beneficial if you think about it.
- Consider if you were looking for a Sim in a particular game that matched a particular category. But, when you pulled up that Sim's article, you saw that the match you were looking for doesn't exist because. The Sim was categorized accordingly because of a particular trait that they had in a different game. Since all the instances of a Sim's biography across all games are (usually) included on one page, the page might have categories ascribed to it that don't apply in all instances.
