Money cheats

Simoleons being counted by a Sim

Money cheats are available in most of The Sims games.

PC[edit | edit source]

The Sims[edit | edit source]

The Sims has the cheats klapaucius and rosebud. klapaucius only works with the unpatched version. They both give the current household an additional 1,000 Simoleons.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: klapaucius
Notes: Gives current household an additional 1,000 Simoleons. Unpatched version of The Sims only.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: rosebud
Notes: Gives current household an additional 1,000 Simoleons. Patched version of The Sims only.

Also, with this cheat, it's possible to type in klapaucius or rosebud, then a number of ";!"s next to it. Each of these gives an additional §1,000, so the more you put in, the more money the family will get.

The Sims 2[edit | edit source]

The Sims 2 has the cheats familyFunds, motherlode and kaching.

kaching is a cheat in The Sims 2. It gives the current household an additional §1,000.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: kaching
Notes: Gives current household an additional 1,000 Simoleons.

motherlode is a cheat introduced in The Sims 2. When used, it adds 50,000 Simoleons to the current family's funds.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: motherlode
Notes: Gives current household an additional 50,000 Simoleons.

familyFunds can be used to increase or decrease a family's household funds by a specific amount, or set them to a specific level. It can also be used from the neighborhood screen. In theory, this allows it to be used on any family in the neighborhood, including those in the family bin, but there are limitations in practice if a family/household name is not unique.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: familyFunds <family/household name> <amount>
Notes: Use +/-<amount> to increase/decrease household's funds, otherwise sets funds to <amount>.
It is possible for several households to have the same name. While this cheat may work if <family/household name> is not unique, the player will be unable to control which household it will affect.

The Sims 3[edit | edit source]

The Sims 3 has the cheats familyFunds, motherlode and kaching.

kaching is a cheat in The Sims 3. It gives the current household an additional §1,000.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: kaching
Notes: Gives current household an additional 1,000 Simoleons.

motherlode is a cheat introduced in The Sims 2 and returned in The Sims 3. When used, it adds §50,000 to the current family's funds.

In theory, this allows it to be used on any family in the neighborhood, but there are limitations in practice.

The freeRealEstate cheat in The Sims 3 isn't considered a money cheat, but it can help any families to move into any residential lots without the need of money.

The testingcheatsenabled cheat must be activated before using this cheat in The Sims 3, but that is not necessary in The Sims 2. In The Sims 2, this cheat requires Nightlife or later. This cheat is useful for players who want to reduce a family's funds, as other money cheats only increase them.

The Sims 4[edit | edit source]

The Sims 4 includes rosebud, kaching and motherlode, and adds two new cheats: money and sims.modify_funds.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: rosebud
Notes: Household receives §1,000

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: kaching
Notes: Household receives §1,000

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: motherlode
Notes: Household receives §50,000

This is the best one if you want to have more money faster (motherlode)

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: money <value>
Notes: Sets current household funds' amount to the input value. Testing cheats must be activated before use.

Enter cheat mode:
type: ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C
type: sims.modify_funds <amount>
Notes: Modifies the household current funds' amount by the value. Can be negative. Testing cheats must be activated before use.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Klapaucius was one of the "constructors" in Stanislaw Lem's The Cyberiad. The Cyberiad, along with other books, was cited by Will Wright as inspiration for his 1989 game SimCity.
  • Klapaucius was probably changed since it was too hard for players to remember.
  • The word "Rosebud" might be a reference to the movie Citizen Kane from the director Orson Wells, which tells the story from childhood to death of a rich newspaper mogul, Charles Foster Kane, "Rosebud" being his final word.
  • Rosebud also appears as a buyable cheat in the handheld versions of The Sims Bustin Out and The Urbz: Sims In The City, where Heidi Shadows, a ninja, sells it at certain times of the day.

Console[edit | edit source]

The Sims: Bustin' Out[edit | edit source]

In this game, the money cheat can be enabled by typing in the Cheat Gnome code, as well as the Money Code. The code gives §2,000 per press.

The Urbz: Sims In The City[edit | edit source]
