Moving Away[edit source]

If my sims kid gets taken away can I adopt other kids after the parents die and they move away? 71.81.74.22 (talk) 14:33, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

If the parents die... how do they adopt kids? Also, parents whose children have been taken away by Social Worker cannot adopt. I don't really understand your situation there, so I can't say much. Nikel Talk Vote for Featured Media! 14:43, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

Family Tree[edit source]

Hi.

I'm planning on making one family, The Yellow household, for say. It consists of a couple and their biogical toddler son. The thing is, I want that child to be taken away from his family, then later adopted by another family, say, The Red Household.

The question is, to the baby, does he lose his family ties, according to his family tree? I know that he will lose all memories prior to being taken, but to him, does he still remember his biogical parents? And do/will they remember their lost son?49.48.11.102 (talk) 03:27, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

In TS2, yeah, he would forget his biological parents and will only know his adoptive family\household. And he would have family ties to the adoptive parents.

In TS3, i guess they still know about their biological parents until they decide to not call them up anymore, cuz when you make a family of an elder and two kids, and make the elder die of old age, the two kids will be taken away and will live with townie families, & if you play a premade family and cheat them into said household, it will show acquaintances that are the adoptive parents of said kids.
Also if in TS4 i could make towns, it would be a quirky-ish town with a lot of Occult Sims, time travel backgrounds for some families, and kinda quirky type household. So of course not all kids will live with their parents. Like one kid is a kid genius so he live with the adult professor, the adult professor's young adult secretary, and a quite numbnuts\weird teen or YA that was sent to the town to be said kid genius' pupil. Another kid was a spaceship captain that got deaged. Yet another kid was sent to a nerdy guy's home in a box, and the guy took her in so she could become his future wife. Pet Adoption Service in The Sims 2: Pets[edit source]

I just had a household call to adopt a kitten at night, and it was delivered right away instead of at 10 AM the next day. The latest EP I have is FreeTime, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Dharden (talk) 17:58, May 13, 2013 (UTC)

I don't remember this, and I don't think later EP has any purpose or reason to change this behavior. According to Prima Guide, when you adopt a new pet from Pet Adoption Service, it says:
Once you select a pet, the Cop appears shortly with the new addition in tow.
It mentions nothing more about the delivery time. Prima Guide could be wrong, but they didn't mention anything about 10 AM. :/ The one from base game Prima Guide mentions this about child adoption though:
The new family member is delivered at 10 a.m. the next day.

Hmm... Checking the history shows that I originally put that in on August 3, 2010. At that time, my latest EP was Seasons. I've had FT long enough that I don't clearly remember that, but I'm assuming that it was something I'd observed in gameplay. I suppose it's possible that the intent was always that the pet would be delivered right away, but that it wasn't implemented until sometime after Pets. After all, they didn't fix the Biotech Station so the medicine actually worked until the FreeTime patch. Dharden (talk) 13:57, May 14, 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I've checked it just now, with all EPs and SPs minus store. Here's what I got from my experiment. I called the pet adoption service at 9.30, and the pet adoption officer came right away to deliver my pet. I called again at 11.00, and she came right away again. I called at 18.00 and 3.15 (right, as in 3 AM), and same story, the officer came right away with no delay. So I can say the pet adoption service will come at any time of the day, judging they have nothing better to do at the office, providing the service at full 24/7.
In comparison, I also called adoption service at 9.40, and the social worker told me she will bring the baby tomorrow at 10. If you adopt at near 10 AM, the baby will eventually be delivered tomorrow. Nikel Talk Vote! 11:19, May 16, 2013 (UTC)
Delivery of adopted children seems to be governed by the day of the week indicator, regardless of when the call is made. I had a Sim call at around 12:30 on Tuesday, and the kid came on Wednesday. Dharden (talk) 03:52, July 8, 2013 (UTC)

Couple adoption (Sims 2)[edit source]

Hi. I have a premade couple, who are supposed to adopt a baby taken away from another family. However, the first time I did that, the baby appeared only as the adopted child of the husband (who was the caller), and not the wife also. When I switched the wife calling, the reverse happened. The thing is, this baby is an Alien, resulted from the abduction of a male sim. Once the baby is adopted, his Alien father appears as well. Is that what's causing it? Is he the reason I can't have both couples share the adopted baby?Kajune (talk) 23:38, August 20, 2013 (UTC)

I have had this problem as well. I did exactly the same thing as you. I did the process with three alien babies, into different families. It came up the same each time. One of the couple adopting, with the alien father still on the family tree. It should be noted in the page as well. I guess the only way to fix it is with SimsPE, but I don't have that so I can't check. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:02, March 6, 2014 (UTC)

Social Worker Not Allowing Adoption After Taking Away Children...[edit source]

While it is true that the social worker will not come once children have been taken away from the parents, the social worker may come eventually and allow the parents to adopt again. I think it is a way for the game to say, "Hey, you showed your responsibility, so the privilege of adoption is yours." I am not sure if the game requires time or a certain number of days passing to occur, or whether this rule depends on the parents' having and raising another child. I just want to put this up here, because I think it's worthy to be put into consideration. 65.24.105.132 (talk) 13:40, October 27, 2013 (UTC)

Adoption Error[edit source]

For some reason in early 2013 when I had one of my Sims adopt a child, for some strange reason, the child did not recognise their parent as family or vice-versa. They also did not have any connection when looking at their family trees. The child did adopt the last name of the intended parent, but that was it. I'm not sure how this sort of error happened, but it happened in Belladonna Cove, and the adopting Sim was a streaker which I'd summoned with the mailbox, when I didn't have University installed. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:10, August 15, 2015 (UTC)

Belladonna Cove is a very glitchy neighborhood. Sometimes when a Sim is resurrected, they don't recognize them as family. And summoning a streaker without University wasn't also very smart. :P Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 07:21, August 15, 2015 (UTC)
If you know how to avoid the dangers of using a streaker without University, then they generally can be used safely. But you need to be careful because without University, a streaker has incomplete everyday clothing data which can sometimes stop them from being able to change into their everyday clothes, so if Mrs. Crumplebottom lectures the streaker, if you're unlucky, it can cause the game to crash. Also because of the incomplete everyday clothing data, the streaker may not autonomously change back into their everyday clothes, if they are told to strip naked. And because of this, the game may treat the Sim as if they're wearing their everyday clothes, when they're naked. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:28, August 15, 2015 (UTC)
