Include Childhood Phases in Traits page?[edit source]
Should the list of Childhood Phases be copied over to the Trait (The Sims 4) page? After all, they are Traits, just temporary ones; they could be included in the Temporary Traits section or in a new Childhood Phases section on the page, if that makes sense? 173.174.106.143 (talk) 18:27, May 29, 2017 (UTC)

Page name[edit source]
I've reverted a page move from "Childhood phase" to "Childhood Phase" (notice the capitalization). This is to adhere to the wiki's Manual of Style, which states: "The Sims Wiki follows Wikipedia's naming conventions, which state that each word in the title and headers should be lowercase unless it is the first word or it is always capitalized." The page was moved to "Childhood Phase" because, according to the page mover, the term 'childhood phase' always appears capitalized in the game. However, past precedent on the wiki has established that we don't adhere to in-game capitalization rules in article text or article/section titles. There are many words and phrases that are always capitalized in-game that The Sims Wiki does not capitalize in the middle of sentences. As a general rule, TSW will only capitalize words in text or titles when the words are proper nouns.

- I forgot, we also have a section in the Manual of Style that addresses capitalization rules in text and articles. I've copied/pasted the relevant text of that section below:
Common terms, even if they're capitalized in-game, should not be capitalized in articles:
- Motives (Hygiene becomes hygiene)
- Traits (Animal Lover becomes animal lover)
- Skills (Nectar Making becomes nectar making)
- Talent badges (Toy Making becomes toy making)
- Hobbies (Arts and Crafts becomes arts and crafts)
- Careers and career titles (Architectural Designer becomes architectural designer, Test Subject becomes test subject)
- Majors (Economy becomes economy)
- Emotions (Energized becomes energized)
- NPC titles (Witch Doctor becomes witch doctor)
- Social classes and social groups (Jock becomes jock)
- Life states (Plumbot becomes plumbot)
- Life stages (Children becomes children)
- Interactions (Rally Forth becomes rally forth, Plan Outfit becomes plan outfit, Try for Baby becomes try for baby)
- Game modes (Edit Town becomes edit town, Buy mode becomes buy mode)
- Rabbit holes and lot types (Bistro becomes bistro)
- Names that are not proper names:
- Plants (Crystal Plant, Money Tree, Flame Fruit, Forbidden Fruit, Life Fruit, Kona Bean, Ginseng, etc.)
- Food (Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich, Lobster Thermidor, Crepes Suzette)
- Fish (Robot Fish, Deathfish, Red Herring)
I am not sure exactly under which header this would fall, as it is more-or-less a life event as opposed to a particular trait, motive, emotion, etc. The only other thing I can think off of the top of my head that is similar to "childhood phase" in terms of how it affects gameplay is the midlife crisis from Generations. That page follows TSW's sentence case rule, and when the term is referred to in article text, it's written in lowercase rather than capitalized. -- LiR talk · blog · contribs 23:28, May 30, 2017 (UTC)

- Not a problem! There's a long history of discussions/disagreement on The Sims Wiki about how to handle these kinds of issues, and someone who hasn't been around a long time probably wouldn't know all about it. Plus, anyone who is new to a community can't be expected to immediately know every rule, guideline, and precedent going all the way back to the beginning. -- LiR talk · blog · contribs 00:33, May 31, 2017 (UTC)
