Table Cleanup[edit source]

If no one has any objection to the idea I'm gonna clean up the tables by removing the "note" and "cause" sections of the tables and simply replace them with a "trigger" column and transfer the relevant information from both. They serve the same purpose and as two seperate columns create a lot of white space.  Willlamme1988 (talk) 17:21, Sep 21, 2017 (UTC)

Major Overhaul of Wishes Page[edit source]

I'm currently working on a major edit, formatting, and overhaul of this page. Over a hundred things have been added so far. As each of these sections are amended it may be beneficial to have future incomplete pieces of information posted on the talk page like below rather than added without all the information. Since the primary game has so many Wishes a future consideration of splitting this article into separate pages to avoid having an extremely lengthy article may be useful.Willlamme1988 (talk) 05:04, May 3, 2014 (UTC)

I've paid attention to your work recently, and I'm actually impressed with it. I agree, it needs a major overhaul. I suggest that we separate the wishes either by categories and divide it into sub-pages like the ones in list of Moodlets, or, by expansion pack. I prefer if we separate them by categories, such as by skills, careers, school, travel, pets, and so on.
I never really bothered maintaining the list of wishes, and I even considered deleting the list. It's very difficult to keep track of the entire list, and I believe the number reaches a thousand! Okay, I don't really know, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot. I'd love to lend you a helping hand if you're willing to continue on the list and not stop in the middle of the work. For starters, we could discuss what to list and what not to list here.
We can start by making some regulations here. There are some things I'd like to point out:
  • We shouldn't list generic wishes that have a lot of variations. For example, Join Firefighter Career, Join Gardener Career, and Join Any Career are all the same wishes with the same descriptions, only with different variations. We really should just group them into one wish so we don't clutter the list.
  • I suggest we should use the in-game icons with transparent background. I have many here, but that's not all. I can provide you all the icons if you want. Also, it's best to use generic icons than specific object / Sim for the icon like the clownfish icon for Catch [#] [Fish Name].
  • The lifetime happiness point really needs to be revamped and re-researched, as it might not be accurate. The point of some wishes is greater if the wish is related to the Sim's LTW, if the Sim is in midlife crisis, or if it's a seasonal holiday.

I will continue working on it till August, by which time this article may be in a very throuroughly thought out state. To adress your points.

  1. I disagree, my current reasoning behind the format is to have all the icons, I just think it looks classier. The advantage being, once we have it all the information we can break the detail section down into a single block saving ungodly amounts of space, and expand the LH section to include the levels of each individual variation, or in the case of non numerical based data, to at least include every job or trait within a Wish. Id also like to point out  that some Wishes, appear to be numerically incremental but are not, like "Wash Hands 2 Times". In some traits where there are many version of an icon I made a compilation icon like on "Meditate for [#] Hours"
  2. I've considered doing so myself but for the moment the article is sorely lacking information, as long as the information is incomplete the aesthetics of the icons are very low priority to me personally. I avoid using Sim or Object specific Icons whenever possible and even made a few of the icons you see in the chart for this exact reason. Some things do not have generics so it requires extra editing to create an icon.
  3. As I noted in my other reply, this is easy to spot in the game by the 'sunburst' effect that appears underneath the Wish Icon on the Wish and Promises Panel. Any time you record data from the game it should be with a Sim that has no lifetime wish and no related traits to the information your gathering. Plumbots work great in this respect. Personally I pull most of my happiness scores that arent base score from the WishesandPromises.xml Many of the differences in the chart were present when I started. So to summarize that, if you use the game to mine the LH scores, just don't add wish LH with the bonus light under them.
  • A suggestion of my own. Some of the Skill articles are fairly short. We could use this list once its feature complete as an index to other parts of the site. Instead of posting the many variations link the skill from the basic section have a NonIcon chart at the bottom of the skills article that very accurately and in a condensed manner presents the invididual oppurtunities related to the skill and LH and save space on the List of Wishes while simultaneously expanding the skill article.

  1. Even if it looks "classier", it's impractical. There are so many variations of a single wish in the game, and often it contains variables, like how long meditation should be done, and who knows if these variables have any limits? I don't see any point including every single identical wish that's technically just the same. The wishes to gain level 2 in Photography and Martial Arts are practically the same. If the reason is just to collect the icons... I don't think it's objective IMO.
  2. I understand that the main focus is on the content itself. I guess this is not in the top priority for now.
  3. I guess it's really great that you paid attention to this. That way, I can be convinced that these points are accurate.
  4. I can't quite get this point... Are you saying you want to include the skill wishes to the skill pages to make them look long just because they're short?
- Nikel Talk Vote! 16:40, May 8, 2014 (UTC)
1. The variables have limits. Any given incremental wish in the game has 6 variations, 7 including the base skill. The base skill using the same icon as the skill itself, eliminating one icon, the next 4 variations using an incremental Icon which could be broken down into a quad icon like I used for meditation. The last two variations use an identical icon. The points always start at 500 and end at 15000. Something like 500, 500, 750, 1000, 3000, 7500, 15000 without bonus modifiers.
4. No that's not what I mean. Despite the fact most skills have 7 levels per 3 groups of achievment trees and the point value is static, the conditions of the Wish change per skill. I'm basically suggesting that once its done, rather than having every single entry in the List of Wishes pages which creates the sort of clutter you say isnt objective. We could instead put a condensed chart on the skill page that has eachs skills Lifetime happiness increments relative to the level of the achievment, within each bracket of achievement. Call this the end game of having a complete list of wishes. Skill articles are not particularly long to begin with so having an extra chart for the sake of having ALL of the information isnt such a bad thing. Prima guides often include these indexes in the back of the book and IMO the primary purpose of a wikia is to freely offer information about a game you don't have to buy in a book so why not have that information as complete as possible.

Late Night Wishes[edit source]

I added most of the wishes that I could remember from Late Night. Of course, I can't get all their descriptions and icons so I need you guys to help me out here. If you find any wishes that belong to late night (e.g. Celebrity, Club/Lounge, or Vampire related,) please upload and copy them so we can get this expansion completed.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeddings123 (talkcontribs) (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~

Un-added wish[edit source]

Sorry for the sucky heading, but I couldn't think of a better way to put it. My Sim has a wish to "See <Sim name>'s Ghost". It's worth 600 Lifetime Happiness. The only game I have is the original The Sims 3.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.116.102.197 (talkcontribs) (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~

Another Wish not on the list is one for firefighters Sims from Ambitions, "Save [Sim] From Death", was worth 3000 on the character's I've seen it on so far. It seems kind of buggy though as pulling the specified Sim from rubble during an earthquake doesn't seem to count, which is very annoying as I've only had the wish show up *during* earthquakes when responding to that person's house/location.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.0.42 (talkcontribs) (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~

Incomplete list?[edit source]

List of Wants is nearly impossible to complete, not to mention this? The lifetime happiness points awarded are always varied from different Sims, depending on their traits, making the entire value in this list meaningless (unless someone can provide a base score for each wish fulfilled). Nikel Talk Vote! 09:05, December 19, 2012 (UTC)

This is actually entirely possible. In the game when a wish is presented within the selection box it has a transparent sunburst layer beneath the icon. It is easily possible for a player to detirmine whether or not they are looking at a Wish that has had its base score modified or if its the standard base want. Willlamme1988 (talk) 05:04, May 3, 2014 (UTC)

Misc[edit source]

My Sim had a wish to "Be Worth At Least 1,000,000 Simoleons"—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.139.81.108 (talkcontribs) (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~

That is a lifetime wish. --a_morris (talk) 17:05, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Who messed up this page? the layout has been messed up and most of the pics of wishes are gone! stupid vandals. Bafendo 15:21, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Missing Wishes[edit source]

There are several that haven't been added, including a bunch from Supernatural. Just thought I'd point that out. --NEΘ THETA (Talk | Contributions | DeviantART | Embed Hell) 09:52, November 5, 2014 (UTC)

Recommendation: lets include all the wishes we discover under one section, to not clutter it and thanks. Second of all, I want to leave myself a reminder to check or add these ones:

  • See (Sim) Become (career) (e.g, "See Carol Become a Professional Athlete")
  • "Buy Something On Sale"
  • LTW
