Player Stories[edit source]

I didn't know if it was appropriate to have player stories in the article of an NPC so here's my player story...

  • I remember when I had a CAS family that was going in their 5 generation. They had a little girl and I had just gotten the expansion pack Seasons so I had her playing in the snow and all of a sudden the social worker came to take her away. I couldn't let that happen! So I killed like 5 Social Workers with the boolprop testingcheatsenabled cheat death by flies before they could teleport her just to save her! It was a horrible experience but she was still there! However I felt so bad afterwards because it was my totally no cheats legit family! >.< After that I quit playing it. Makiah (talk) 17:34, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Sims 3 Question[edit source]

I know that discussion pages on Wikis generally aren't a place for discussion of the topic, but I was wondering if adopting a child/pregnancy are no longer allowed after a child is taken away, as in Sims 2.

Move[edit source]

Thank you, but I prefer O Positive! (Talk) This Plasma Pack tastes fool!16:44, October 15, 2011 (UTC)
Shouldn't it be "Social Worker" instead or "Social worker"?
No, "worker" shouldn't be capitalized according to our updated guidelines. --RoseGui (talk here) 17:03, October 15, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think so. For one thing, there's already a redirect named "Social Worker", for people who want to capitalize both words in articles. There are also several articles where it is uncapitalized. I think it would be easier to just leave the article's name alone. Dharden (talk) 17:08, October 15, 2011 (UTC)
Seems fine how it is, though I wouldn't really care either way. Comes down to "don't fix what ain't broken". ђ talk 22:22, October 15, 2011 (UTC)

Is this a glitch?[edit source]

I had a Sim baby and she's not playable anymore, but she's alive, and she was taken away. But after that, it let me adopt a new baby. In Sims 3, are you allowed to adopt a new baby when one's been taken away? Or was the baby kidnapped? XXxCrazyThingXxX (talk) 18:13, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

Never mind, I found a way to get her back. She'd disappeared somehow, but I moved her into a different household, and she's come back, thankfully. XXxCrazyThingXxX (talk) 09:02, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

Children taken away[edit source]

It is very odd that here it is stated that on the first series of the game TS1, the social worker can only take away babies. When I first started playing the game, I made a crazy chaotic family of two parents and 6 children (no babies, just regular children). As I was a newbie, I couldn't keep them happy and with good grades, so one day the social worker came and took them all (even the two ones that were actually with perfect status).

I was still a kid, and I was so super upset. But I never forgot this (as then I learned I either should start playing with a smaller family or with the tutorial family). So to me this information provided here it inaccurate (or my game had a weird glitch).

Children who have bad grades will be taken to military school, instead of by social worker. Nikel Talk Vote! 07:19, August 23, 2013 (UTC)

Error on description[edit source]

I'm not sure if it was an error or if I have always experienced this as a glitch when I first played The Sims (1). My first family , without knowing how to play, I created 2 adults as aprents and 6 children and I couldn't keep it up to having them all be happy and with good grades. So the social worker came for my children normally, took them all away, even the 2 ones that were doing well. I didn't have any babies or any expansion packs, only the plain first The Sims game.

On the wiki above, it states that on the first game, the social worker only took babies away, but I remember it all too well to have the note saying my kids were going away to boarding school or something and they got all into her car and the parents were left alone. Then i realized I should have started simple or with the tutorial family...

Playability[edit source]

Are you sure about using the Social Worker as a playble sim I've had her as a sim for 3 years and nothing bad has happened she's married to Robi Charvat and is a mother now and nothing glithcy has happened. She has only became a sim becuase I had a child taken away from Don and Nina(nee Calinete) Lothario for some reason Nina remebered her in a relationship panel and I had her move in then move out. So, is there really a problem? Niko 2010 (talk) 16:39, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

I never tried to make her playable, but I think that she can cause glitches and corruption since she's special NPC, not like mailman or paper boy. And, her character file seems to be incomplete since she isn't designed to be playable. Mate1234 (Chatterbox...) 17:10, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
You should understand that a game corruption does not show up right away. It's very unwise to experiment your game yourself and do things you're told not supposed to. I suggest you read more about it here:

Thanks, I know about Hood corruption and all, but this sim has not glitched, nobody has glithched and I'm playing now and every body is in fine order. Is it possible she made character data? She had a Aspiration(Fortune) and turns on/off and personality points with her. As a side question are hotel cleaners safe to be played? As, somebody has a relationship thats best friend and I'm thinking about moving in. Is t safe?Niko 2010 (talk) 20:08, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
I usually shift+click on Sims to see if they are safe or not. If the Sim can be made selectable by shift+clicking, then there's a chance they might be safe to be made playable (but not in all cases), but if they only have 2 options (Force Error & something else I don't remember), it'd be wise to not mess with them. Nikel Talk Vote! 04:27, November 18, 2013 (UTC)
She's safe! What about the Hotel Cleaner or the desk hotel person are they safe?Niko 2010 (talk) 07:24, November 18, 2013 (UTC)
As I can remember, Force Error appears on everything (normal Sims, NPCs, objects...). It's smarter to use debug mode in CAS and make your own Social Worker, Grim Reaper, or someone else. And, as Nikel said, corruption doesn't occur right then. It may be corruption of game codes that may later affect gameplay. And some special NPCs usually retain their behavior. My playable Repo Man tried to reach his Repo Car (that's how I call it) whenever he doesn't have any actions in queque. Same with burglar. Mate1234 (Chatterbox...) 08:12, November 18, 2013 (UTC)
I checked her in SimPE and every thing was there. Personality, Interests etc.Niko 2010 (talk) 20:04, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
Seeing that there's a lot of confusion here, let me clear things up. Game corruption is when a Universal NPC, such as the Grim Reaper, Mrs. CrumpleBottom, etc. are modified in any way or form outside of their in-game purposes. That includes moving them in, making them selectable, changing their gender, etc. Neighborhood corruption occurs for a large variety of reasons. To be clear, the Social Worker is NOT a universal Sim - they have a character file and thus tampering with them will cause neighborhood corruption. I wrote a game guide regarding corruption here.
Niko, just because a Sim has a personality, interests, bio, gender, etc. doesn't mean they have a complete character file. Sims like the Repo Man, Social Worker, Social Bunny, etc. have an incomplete character file because they lack a lot of necessary data to be properly playable. The game treats these Sims differently than other Sims. By making them selectable, their character file doesn't magically become complete, but you've just changed the way the game treats that Sim. Since the character file is incomplete, and the game is trying to treat the Sim as a regular Sim, loose, dangling references often conjoin with the incomplete bits of the character file. This is basically what corruption is - it's when missing or incomplete data look for a new home, find one, and settle in, even if it makes no sense at all. Sim A and Sim B might have a baby, but Sim C may, for no reason, get a memory of having a child even if they've never met Sim A or B. That's corruption - there's incomplete data somewhere and the data went over to link up with it. Eventually, there will be so much misplaced data that the neighborhood will become unopenable by the game, or if it's bad enough, SimPE.
In short, if a Sim's been known to be "untouchable" on this list, don't try to do anything with them. K6ka (talk | contrib) | NG Userpage | The Last Stand Wiki | The Sims Wiki | YouTube | Wikipedia 20:56, December 17, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks that's good help!Niko 2010 (talk) 08:57, December 21, 2013 (UTC)
It's difficult to distinguish Social Workers from NPCs that are safe to make playable, despite the fact that they are always called Social Worker. Carpool Drivers are easier because although they have unique names, the game will force errors on them if they try to do interactions such as "Say Goodbye". If they walk off a lot outside their designed in-game purpose, buy mode and build mode will be permanently disabled for that particular household. That can also happen with Social Workers. Repo Men are easy enough to identify as "unsafe" and the Social Bunnies perhaps too much so. C.Syde65 (talk) 03:25, January 23, 2014 (UTC)

Social Worker in the Sims 2[edit source]

When I first played the Sims 2 in July 2011, I barely knew what a Social Worker even was. I was trying to kill Bottom Summerdream when playing the Summerdream family and I had to exit several times because the Social Worker kept coming. The first time I thought the Social Worker was just taking Bottom for a drive, at least until Bottom disappeared from the active household members pane. After a few more attempts, I realized that child Sims couldn't be killed under normal circumstances - but I eventually found that I could drown her without the Social Worker comming.

During one of my failed attempts, the Social Worker just stood there for hours and then the car disappeared and re-appeared and then Bottom was taken away. Buy, build and save mode remained disabled so I had no choice but to switch the computer off and re-do what I had previously unsaved. C.Syde65 (talk) 03:41, January 23, 2014 (UTC)

How to get your children back[edit source]

When a child is taken away from the social worker, people think it's impossible to get them back. but it is possible. Follow these steps. This worked for me once.

1. throw a party; invite your sim children to the party

2. when the kids arrive, hold down. control and shift and then press the letter "c" on your keyboard.

3. A little bar should appear at the top of the screen. Type in the following(include spaces)

testingcheatsenabled true

4. shift click on one of your kids and a menu will pop up. Click "add to active family"

After you follow these steps, your children will be back in your family and the social worker will not coming looking for them.

if this doesn't work, got to the school at about 7:00 and wait at the entrance for your kids. Your kids will be still living in the town and can be confronted even if the social worker took them away from you.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Spongewiki180 (talkcontribs) 21:21, November 23, 2014 (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~
