New Ideal![edit source]

Bella Goth - My hobbies include organ practice and gardening of the lethal variety.
TALK - Have you seen my family?
I have a great ideal!!! Wouldn't it be great if Sims with high cooking skill and writing skill write a cookbook? I would just love that, as I consider myself somewhat of a chef, lol!

I think Sims with any sort of skill should be able to write skill books. - Bunnyboi 08:51, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

Poetry genre?[edit source]

I have the Sims 3 Pets and Nightlife installed. One of my sims has the option to write in the poetry genre. Here are some of the things about her that might help narrow down how this appears.

She has read 5 books, completed 8 books, 1 flop, 2 hits, written: 2 biographies, 2 drama, 2 humor, 2 sci-fi. She has completed none of the special writing challenges. Her mother had the professional author want, but didn't achieve it. She is at the top athletic skill, and the top writing skill. She's got 4 logic points and 9 cooking points. She is at the adult life stage, has had 2 children, (one is currently a teenager, and the other is a young adult and married.) She is at level 7 of the professional sports career. She has the athletic, insane, animal lover, light sleeper, and coward traits. She has the lifetime rewards: fast learner, acclaimed author, observant, legendary host, long distance friend, and office hero.

I have a screenshot available for anyone who needs proof. 173.168.227.36 (talk) 04:16, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

To make it clear, Poetry (and maybe Horror as well) writing genre is added in Patch 38, but it cannot be written unless you have Supernatural. So technically, it, along with Horror, is a new genre from Supernatural, rather than the patch. Nikel Talk Vote! 12:53, September 18, 2012 (UTC)
Confirmed. Poetry is a new genre of Writing skill. A Sim must get level 7 of the skill.13:08, September 18, 2012 (UTC)
As I stated before, I have Pets and Nightlife installed only. I DO NOT own supernatural and my sims can write poetry books. I do have the latest patch, though.173.168.227.36 (talk) 20:49, September 19, 2012 (UTC) Also, just noticed that Horror is also an available genre for me. 173.168.227.36 (talk) 20:50, September 19, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, those genres are added with the latest patch, Patch 38, even if you don't own Supernatural. But I heard people said Supernatural is still required to write those genres properly though. Can you actually finish a book of those genres? Nikel Talk Vote! 03:10, September 20, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, no. When I start trying to write it, the sim gets teleported a few feet away from the computer, but the writing animation shows up on the computer for a little while after. This is a strange bug.173.168.227.36 (talk) 01:59, September 21, 2012 (UTC)
Well, then... Patch did include them, but people still require Supernatural to write them... *Shrugs* Weird EA... :/ Nikel Talk Vote! 12:33, September 21, 2012 (UTC)

Bonus trait[edit source]

Recently, Sims2fan1998 and I had another edit warring in this page regarding the bonus traits for several genres. I added the Loser trait as a bonus trait to the Humor genre and Rebellious to the Satire genre, but Sims2fan1998 removed Rebellious and changed Loser to Good Sense of Humor. While it does make sense that Good Sense of Humor trait is a bonus trait for Humor genre instead of Loser, that's not how the game works. The game doesn't use common sense to work; it uses codes that are written in the game. And what I wrote there is what's written in the game code.

As you can see on the right, it is the code that presents which bonus traits certain genres have. I marked the Humor genre in red square. Only Loser, Inappropriate, and Mean Spirited counts; Good Sense of Humor doesn't count. Each bonus trait a Sim possesses, they get an extra 25% for the book's royalty, so possessing these 3 traits will give +75% bonus royalty. Having the Good Sense of Humor trait only helps Sims to write the genre with less Writing skill, but it doesn't grant the royalty bonus. So even though Good Sense of Humor trait is helpful, putting it under "Bonus Traits" column is also incorrect, since the context of benefit is different.

Sims2fan1998 also changed the Writing skill requirement for Sims with Good Sense of Humor trait on Humor genre to 3. The correct level, according to the XML file, is 2.

So, here, I explained my reasoning of undoing here. I hope it's clear enough. Nikel Talk Vote! 14:25, January 2, 2015 (UTC)
