Template:Familytree

Purpose

Familytree is used to create a family tree diagram. It must be preceeded by Familytree/start and followed by Familytree/end.

Usage

Each Familytree line can have as many values as needed, each separated by a pipe (|).

People listed in each Familytree line must first be assigned a three-letter code, then defined later in the line. The following example creates a box for Mortimer, Frida and an Unknown person, with a space in between each of them:

Note: the width of each box will be affected by boxes above or below them. As more repetitions of the Familytree template are used, the boxes should become more uniform in size.

Connection lines

Lines to connect character boxes together are designated by a single command. The commands are as follows:

Command	Purpose	Example
(a space) or 0 (a zero)	Separates character boxes.	(See "Usage" section above for example.)
Solid connections, to show direct family relations
- (dash)	Solid horizontal line
!	Solid vertical line
, (comma)	Solid line leading to the left and down.
. (period)	Solid line leading to the right and down.
' (single quote)	Solid line leading to the right and up.
` (grave accent)	Solid line leading to the left and up.
^ (carat)	Solid horizontal line with a solid line branching upward.
v (lowercase V)	Solid horizontal line with a solid line branching downward.
( (left parenthesis)	Solid vertical line with a solid line branching to the left.
) (right parenthesis)	Solid vertical line with a solid line branching to the right.
+ (plus sign)	Solid line branching in all four directions.
Dotted connections, to show indirect family relations
~ (tilde)	Horizontal dotted line.
: (colon)	Vertical dotted line.
F	Dotted line leading to the left and down.

J	Dotted line leading to the right and up
