The Sims Wiki:Policy/Proposed Policy

New policy proposals are to be made on this page. This is not the correct location to propose changes to already-existing policies.

Creation[edit source]

  • New policies may be proposed by any active user.
  • Policy proposals should be made on this page. Proposed policies go through a similar community discussion and consensus process as policy amendments.
  • Once a policy has been consented to by the community, it takes effect immediately unless the proposal or subsequent consensus calls for a grace period or a certain length of time before the policy takes effect.
  • All new policies must obtain community consensus before they become official policy - Administrators and Bureaucrats may not add new policies without consent.

Images Policy[edit source]

Moved from the Comm. Portal talk page

I have just been editing many images, categorising and licensing them, and I feel that it is time we should introduce an images policy. Some things I feel that could be included in the policy include:

  • What action to be taken against users who don't categorise or license their images(I know blocks are a bit harsh, but I can't see another way)
  • What action to be taken against users who use generic filenames,
  • What to do with unused images(should we delete them, or use them?)
  • And if we should or should not have images not related to the sims.

Thoughts? --WH (Talk) 02:17, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

My opinions on this are as followed:
  • I oppose action being taken against users who don't categorize or license their images, though I support them being given possible warnings if the behaviour continues.
  • I believe that no action should be taken against users who upload images with generic filenames, though the user should be notified that their image has been moved.
  • I believe that unused images should be added to articles if of good quality and there's an article relating to them. If not, deleted.
  • If the photos not related to The Sims series are used on a page then I believe they should be allowed, though if unused they should be deleted. --Bleeh(talk) (blog) 02:24, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Bleeh's opinions. —Random Ranaun (Talk to me!) 01:16, May 16, 2011 (UTC)

Comments Policy[edit source]

Article Comments have been enabled almost half a month ago, but have been in Blog posts for a long while. So, I think a Comments Policy is long overdue. Here is what I think the basic rules should be:

  1. Keep proper language - users won't be able to understand what your comment is about if your comment has terrible spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  2. No inflammatory comments - don't be critical just for the sake of being critical. If you have a problem with the article or blog, carefully explain it in the comment.
  3. No profanity - the wiki caters to a general audience.
  4. Don't spam - comments that advertise non-wiki websites, or repeated comments that are just nonsense, are considered spam and will be deleted immediately.
  5. No irrelevant comments - make sure the comment in question is actually about the article or blog post, comments about anything else will be deleted.
  6. Don't flood - if you wish to make a large change to a comment you have written, don't write it in a reply. Simply contact an administrator and tell them what the change is. If you purpose flood the comments, such as writing one word each comment, they will be deleted.

That's all I have so far. Anyone have any additions or suggestions? —Random Ranaun (Talk to me!) 06:05, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

The only observation I have is that many of those points are already covered in our general policies and don't really need to be repeated - for instance, profanity, spam, and inflammatory language. It may be more practical to simply add in comments to the General Rules we already have, rather than create an entirely new policy for them. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog 20:09, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

Policy on Rumored Games[edit source]

Game or expansion rumors are tricky business in that they simply are not factual (or cannot be proven completely factual) until they are confirmed officially. This is contrary to everything else on this wiki - every other article in the content space seeks to provide true and provable information while the rumors are, by their nature, unproven (or at least unconfirmed). This, combined with the problem of users often adding incorrect information or "confirming" rumors without actually confirming them, as led me to propose the following policy:

The Sims Wiki has a page specifically dedicated to The Sims game rumors - rumors regarding new games, expansion and stuff packs that have not been officially announced by Electronic Arts. The following rules govern the use of that page, as well as determine when a game rumor has been confirmed or refuted.

Rules for The Sims Game Rumors page
  1. All rumors on the Game Rumors page must link to a reputable Sims-themed website (outside The Sims Wiki). Reputable websites may include SimPrograms, ModTheSims, InfiniteSims, or others, where the rumor originated.
  2. Rumors lacking a link to a reputable site will be deleted and their proposer will be notified of this policy. If the rumor is re-added, the user will receive a warning, followed by additional action for continued re-addition.
  3. All rumors that lack official confirmation or refutation from Electronic Arts will remain in the 'Rumors' section of the page. No user may move the rumor to 'Confirmed True' without link to an official confirmation from Electronic Arts.
Rumor Confirmation
  1. Only Electronic Arts, through their website or through an EA website (such as TheSims3.com) may issue an official confirmation. Linking to a site other than an EA site does not confirm the rumor. Posts on The Sims 3 forums do not serve as official confirmation.
  2. If a user moves a rumor to 'Confirmed True' without a link to an official confirmation, that move will be reverted and the user will be subject to a warning. Repeated moving may be subject to additional actions as necessary.
  3. Any new articles created for a newly-confirmed game must link to a source of official confirmation from Electronic Arts, or they will be deleted.

Discussion

Please give your feedback, additions or ideas! -- LostInRiverview talk · blog 20:31, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

It's funny that this was proposed almost a year ago with no discussion whatsoever :P. I feel that this policy is quite reasonable as it makes handling game rumours much more simple and less stressful. Therefore, I support this policy. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 11:10, April 15, 2012 (UTC)
I fully support this policy. As a contributor who seeks rumors, I'll try to be more careful next time. 08:58, January 15, 2013 (UTC)
This proposal dried up quite a long time ago... but I've put forward a new one at Forum:Unreleased Games Policy - weigh in there! -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 09:07, January 15, 2013 (UTC)
