Voting Results[edit source]

After discarding votes cast by unregistered users, the totals stand as:

8 - In favor of deletion
4 - Against deletion
1 - Neutral

As a majority of voters has approved deletion, the page The Sims 4 will be deleted. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 03:54, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Page's content has been removed as per the vote, and the page has been set up as an automatic redirect page to the forum. The page is protected until such time as a Sysop removes the protection; this is to prevent users from re-creating the page prior to an official announcement of the game. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:00, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Deletion Discussion[edit source]

I've marked this page for deletion, and I'm hoping that the deletion can be discussed and a consensus can be reached.

First off, it should surprise no one that EA has begun development of TS4... the typical time taken to develop a game is many years, especially for something as massive as a Sims game. However, I'm pretty sure, as we are only on TS3's 2nd expansion currently, that it will be at least 2-3 years (my guess) before any official word is made or any real information is provided on TS4. In the meantime, this page exists only as temptation for people to come on and offer their own made-up, un-sourced and/or speculative information regarding the game, none of which will be proven or official until an official announcement is made.

Secondly, the words of a rogue EA employee shouldn't carry much credibility, especially on Twitter of all places. It even says in the article that this "is the only information we know about it." It seems totally pointless to me to have a page dedicated to stating something which hasn't been officially announced and which is still multiple years away.

Therefore, I've nominated this page to be deleted. If you disagree, you may state your reasoning as I have already stated mine. Thanks! --LostInRiverview 06:57, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

I agree. --a_morris (talk) 13:18, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
I disagree. It is obvious that The Sims 4 will come out as EA/Maxis cannot throw away a best-selling series. But, regardless whether an employee states anything about it or not, the article is credible as it is certain there will be a Sims 4 and anyway the article doesn't give away any unsourced/speculative information except that it is estimated that it will be released in 2012/2013. And if anyone puts any uncertain/unsourced/speculative info on the article we should ask them to source it or delete the information. And another thing, doesn't The Sims Wiki have the right to simply know about an employee commenting?MJ567 16:16, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
I'm 50/50 on deleting this. The The Sims 3 expansion pack rumors page is kinda nice since it helps debunk some rumors and adds valueable info from leaks and interviews about upcoming releases. Maybe we could merge this small rumor with that page? On one hand it'll be YEARS before we see The Sims 4, whether or not they're brainstorming about it now. On the other hand, it would be nice to cite the rumor on the main page once it does get close. Duskey(talk)(blog) 08:33, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
Our policy, although not strictly regulated, is to keep stubs only for a month and delete them if they have not been expanded. This page would remain a stub for much longer than that. I think the amount of editor time spent removing vandalism and speculative information from this article will be high for too long. --a_morris (talk) 14:12, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
Oh wow, I forgot that I marked this page. Duskey's suggestion doesn't sound all that bad to me. Maybe a new section on that page - The Sims 4 Rumors (although how that fits into TS3 expansion rumors, I wonder). The problem I see with the page as it is now is that it could be a long time before any significant information comes forward. While I don't doubt that there will be a TS4 or that it is probably under development right now, I just don't think there's nearly enough information - yet. LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 18:55, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
I agree that it doesn't really fit with the rumours about The Sims 3. I'm not wild about moving because we'll probably forget where we put it, although I think the best place would be the List of The Sims games on the talk page or maybe a subpage for rumours. Another option would be to protect this page for a couple of years. --a_morris (talk) 22:14, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
Protecting this page might work. If there's no page, or none that can be easily found, people who hear the rumors might keep starting pages about them. Having a protected page might be a way of saying "Yes, we know already -- and it's likely to be a long time before anyone knows anything definite. (Then again, it could be that I'm being overly optimistic.) Dharden 22:54, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
I suggest we as a show of good faith, don't protect it until the spam and vandalism gets out of hand. At the moment, there's hasn't been much, has there? Adding a disclaimer saying something like: "It is not uncommon for developers to start the next installment in a game series right after the launch of a new release. Games often go through a long planning phase before anything practical is constructed for it" Just with nicer words. Duskey(talk)(blog) 23:02, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
How about "Although EA has not officially announced development of The Sims 4, there is a good chance that it is already currently under development. However, until EA officially announces The Sims 4, information on the game will be very limited, and may not be accurate or may not be included in the game when it is released." I also suggest keeping the page protected, to some degree, until an official announcement (when something can be determined, whether to keep protection or unprotect). I understand that if we get rid of this page, we open it up to having new people re-create the page.
Another suggestion, perhaps, is to merge this page and the TS3 expansion rumors page into a new page, something like "New Game Rumors" or something to that effect, then have 'The Sims 4' redirect automatically there, so no one can re-create this page until a formal announcement. Just some thoughts. --LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 23:59, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
I like the forum idea, perhaps 'The Sims 4' should just redirect to the forum topic and be protected. Duskey(talk)(blog) 06:17, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with deletion while it is obvious this will come out eventually as EA would not kill a cash cow like the Sims there is no official word or information on the topic and the wiki is not the place for speculation--Thelamppost 18:09, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with user:Duskey. It should redirect to the forum topic and be protected. WhatZitToYa 03:26, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

  3. --LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 19:43, July 3, 2010 (UTC) - I think the best solution would be to move all rumors (TS3 expansion and TS4 rumors) to a joint page. As I've stated, TS4 is years away.
  4. Bellagoth 22:51, July 4, 2010 (UTC) We should wait until it is officaly announced.
  5. Sims4ever ----- Same reason as Bellagoth
  6. I don't think the Sims 4 will be out for many years. The Sims 2 had a span of 5 years, the Sims 3 has only been out for a year.--Bella Goth 01:04, July 7, 2010 (UTC)Bella Goth

Deletion[edit source]

Can i Delete the article now?--Danny(Monster2821) 01:51, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Not until 03:51 UTC as it says. Might aswell do it right. Duskey(talk)(blog) 02:39, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
I was actually going to follow the suggestions and create a redirect. I'll be on in an hour when the vote ends to delete the page (unless there should suddenly be a massive increase of voters). In any case, Don't delete this talk page since it should be archived. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 02:51, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
