Any reason why the channel is empty most of the time? ;) --Cubs197 06:24, September 28, 2009 (UTC)

Nope, but there's people in it now :) Duskey(talk) 23:27, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

OHNO![edit source]

IT KEEPS SAYING MY NICKNAME IS ALREADY INUSE WHEN I LOG IN TO IRC!<:(PLEASE HELP!--Monster2821 (talk) 02:29, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

It means someone else has registered the nick you're currently using. Type /nick and then a new nick to change it. You can also register your own nick if it's not already taken. Type '/msg NickServ help' for more info. Duskey(talk) 03:07, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

When i get on irc it says:"irc is blocked please try again later".what does that mean?-- Danny (Monster2821) (talk)(random page) 20:13, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know, which client are you using? Your browser? Duskey(talk) 20:18, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Try getting on there it's easier then telling you exactly what's wrong.-- Danny (Monster2821) (talk)(random page) 20:22, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

You want me to tell you why you can't connect to IRC on IRC? :s Duskey(talk) 20:49, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Exactly, plus i am slow at typing and it will take a long time i guess to type what the problem is,Also i don't know much about irc problems.-- Danny (Monster2821) (talk)(random page) 20:57, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Someone tells me that you can't connect to freenode from the wikia login form at the moment. I don't know when it will be fixed. Duskey(talk) 21:05, August 11, 2010 (UTC)

Not working again[edit source]

The IRC is no longer working.-- Danny (Monster2821) (talk)(random page) 11:54, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

Is it only the web gateway which isn't working? Have you tried using a client? Duskey(talk) 13:57, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
Same as last time with it saying please reconnect , remember?-- Danny (Monster2821) (talk)(random page) 14:01, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
Re-added the notice to the page. Monster - try using mIRC or ChatZilla or another IRC client. Those seem to work better. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 14:05, September 2, 2010 (UTC)

IRC cloak[edit source]

Does anyone know how I can get an IRC cloak for #The_Sims which will work on other IRC channels such as #wikipedia-en or #uncyclopedia? GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 16:09, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Help:Wikia IRC channel cloaks works on the entire Freenode network. --Duskeytalk 17:52, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
Done. Thanks Duskey :). Kind regards, GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 18:20, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Itachibot[edit source]

Add Itachibot on the IRC Channel page...

Itachibot is a channel bot on the IRC Channel in #The_Sims . You could see what commands he can do by using !commands

If you need help how to use the command, type !cmds help (command name) = Example !cmds help !cuddle

!info to check informations about Itachibot.. Franciskyle09 18:01, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Itachibot is also cool :D GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 18:53, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
Added. --Duskeytalk 12:00, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

The Sims Medieval Wiki[edit source]

Should an IRC channel be made for this wiki? I have currently "created" a channel called #The_sims_medieval which has no ChanServ involvement. (I don't know how to give ChanServ a permanant home) Just thought I'd ask just in case there is some demand. GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 18:31, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

That would be something you should discuss with their community, which is tiny since the wiki is brand new. The Sims Wiki and The Sims Medieval Wiki is not the same, we're merely linking to each other. Discussions about the game is still very welcome in the #the_sims channel. Seeing as how our channel is often quiet I doubt an IRC channel only for Medieval would have much success. --Duskeytalk 19:01, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

Freenode is dead...[edit source]

Is it just me or can nobody connect via Freenode? I seem to have no CAPTCHA or Connect button appearing. GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 19:55, September 17, 2010 (UTC)

Are you connecting through the Freenode form or the Wikia form? --Duskeytalk 23:36, September 17, 2010 (UTC)
Freenode form. GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 07:24, September 18, 2010 (UTC)
Sorted. #freenode told me to bypass my cache. GEORGIEGIBBONS (talk) 12:49, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Help[edit source]

I can't get on the IRC, help.--Eduardog3000 17:33, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Are you using a client (such as mIRC)? GEORGIEGIBBONS talk contributions 20:42, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
I'm using the link this page gives me.

Wikia's log-in has been blocked for quite a while due to vandalism. If you are using your web browser, then I feel that it is easier to use the Freenode log-in and just type in /join #The_sims and hopefully it works. GEORGIEGIBBONS talk contributions 18:22, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, it worked.--Eduardog3000 20:48, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Wikia login[edit source]

Does anyone know if the Wikia login is indefinitely blocked rather than temporarily blocked as after a few months, access is still denied. If word has been given regarding the ultimate status then I will update the notice on The Sims Wiki:IRC Channel. GEORGIEGIBBONS talk contributions 20:39, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know, and I don't know if anyone knows, so I used code to hide it as a temporary solution. --Elassint 20:49, October 31, 2010 (UTC)
If it's only supposed to be temporary then I'd think that the ban would be lifted sometime soon as (despite most users having clients or using the Freenode login) it is causing some collateral damage. I'm not even sure if Wikia even has control over the ban. GEORGIEGIBBONS talk contributions 21:08, October 31, 2010 (UTC)

Registering with NickServ to access[edit source]

Now that anyone who wants to access the channel must be registered with NickServ, should we add this to the page in addition to instructions on how to register? I would do it myself but I'm not too sure how it should be laid out. GG (t)(c)(b) 16:18, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

How do I register?--Eduardog3000 21:40, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

Once you have connected to Freenode, use /ns register <password> <email> (the password and email parts may be the other way around). Then check your emails and follow the instructions. GG (t)(c)(b) 21:44, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

IRC contact[edit source]

Per this, it seems that Duskey will be inactive for an indefinite period, meaning that we'll need a new IRC channel contact. However, it's not as simple as it sounds. Duskey is the only one with the rights to change an IRC contact for the channel and apparantly, though not proven, Freenode staffers cannot access the channel to appoint a new one. At this stage, we are left with two options: we can try and see if Freenode actually can remove Duskey's rights and hand them over to another admin or we would have to make a new IRC channel. Before deciding on who should be the new channel contact, I think we need to discuss how we should handle this situation. GG (t)(c)(b) 22:38, February 12, 2011 (UTC)

New IRC policies[edit source]

Hello, Sims Wikians!

The IRC is a great way to communicate with users; but sadly, it has its drawbacks. A recent incident (which I will not name any participants of) happened between two wiki chatrooms; our wiki and another. While I do not have the full details on what happened I can say that neither of the two wikis were more 'to blame' then the other. This incident is not the first to happen between two wiki chatrooms that involve some of our users.

Clearly, a few grudges have been building up on the IRC between wiki community members. The members of the other community in this recent even say there are no grudges. This is relieving, as a rivalry between the two wikis could have been very unpleasant, all because of a simple argument.

Another instance is a user who has repeatedly threatened users on the IRC, and was thus blocked on wiki.

After a discussion with our IRC contact, GEORGIEGIBBONS, we have agreed that a few more policies should be implemented as to the use of the IRC. One of them includes a rule of blocking a user on-wiki if they are repeatedly blocked on the IRC and have a wiki account (this is common on many wikis, as it allows users to think twice before misbehaving). The second is for a block to be given on-wiki and on-IRC if a user negatively effects The Sims Wiki (for example, by engaging in arguments with other wikis).

We would like to ask if anyone agrees with these policies, or perhaps have different ideas as to what, if anything, should be done. --BobNewbie ∞(Talk)∞ 19:37, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

I would like to add that the second new policy would depend on the severity of the situation and who had instigated the argument, like how users are usually banned in these situations. Also, I would like to point out the other chatroom have actually been launching attacks at us. For privacy's sake, I'm going to keep their name private but that issue has now been resolved and both parties have agreed to drop it and I oppose the second new policy.

I am however in full support of the first new policy as we have had a user, as Bob mentioned above, who is a repeat offender of the IRC channel and was blocked on the wiki as they had also trolled here too. It makes sense to have the first policy as it is fair. Having a right to edit the wiki also means having a right to use the IRC channel and if they abuse it, they lose it. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 19:41, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

I have the same opinion as Georgie on this matter. WH talk 00:29, June 13, 2011 (UTC)
I would also like to point out that several channel operators recently agreed that there were too many channel rules so we shortened them to these. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 14:49, June 15, 2011 (UTC)
