Trash compactors are large appliances used for the disposal of garbage, and hold more than normal indoor garbage cans. However, unlike garbage cans, they will eventually break down and need to be repaired.

The Sims

Trash compactors in The Sims are standalone appliances. The surface of a trash compactor will not be used for food preparation, but objects can be placed on it.

Due to the way objects work in The Sims, recolors of Maxis objects are separate objects. Therefore, recolors of Maxis trash compactors may have prices that are different from the originals.

A trash compactor can be used if there is only one free space in front of it, but cannot be repaired unless there are at least two free spaces in front of it. In Open for Business, a CleanBot will not empty a trash compactor.
