I certainly have not forgotten about the monthly community news blog! Yeah, last month (and February too) we released them on the eleventh. Well, I was busy doing other things on the eleventh and the twelfth, so this will have to come out on—Friday the 13th?! Very well: better late than never! So without further ado, here's what's been going on around The Sims Wiki...

Recent changes patrol extension enabled

Administrators and content moderators will be happy to see that the recent changes patrol extension has been enabled on the wiki following consensus after a discussion.

For those not familiar with some of the wiki's inner workings, Special:RecentChanges is the page we use to monitor recent activity on the wiki, including new edits and new page creations. By default, all new pages will be marked by the wiki software as being "not yet patrolled", and an administrator or content moderator can check the page and mark it as "patrolled" in order to remove the flag. This functionality doesn't affect whether or not you can see the page (unpatrolled pages can still be viewed and edited like normal); the "patrolling" system is just a way of marking page creations as having been verified by someone to be OK so that work doesn't have to be duplicated.

The recent changes patrol extension extends that functionality to every single edit made to the wiki, allowing administrators and content moderators to mark edits as "patrolled". Again, an unpatrolled edit can still be viewed by anybody; marking it as patrolled just lets other admins and content mods know that someone had checked that edit so they don't wind up repeating work.

If you're just here to read the wiki or if you're not an administrator or content moderator, this might be of limited use to you. However, even though you cannot mark edits as patrolled, you can still monitor Special:RecentChanges and help the patrollers out by reverting unconstructive edits.

By the way, if you are an administrator or content moderator, do have a look at the recent changes patrol policy here.

Discord Discord Diiiiiscord!

Our Discord server is as active as ever! Our server's been growing at a steady rate, and in fact we just passed our 400 member count two weeks ago! We're still missing people, though: YOU, if you have not joined our Discord server yet! Join today!

Not familiar with Discord? It's a social communication platform that provides chat rooms, voice chat, user profiles, and other cool stuff that puts Skype, Teamspeak, and IRC to shame. Best of all, it's free and easy to get into, and it's becoming quite popular! You can read our page about Discord here, and you can also visit their website and read about it on Wikipedia. Seriously though, you won't really know how awesome Discord is until you join it, and if you haven't completed all of the readings, that's fine; we won't bite!

Ready to join the world of awesomeness? Move your squeaky little mouse over the "Connect" button and click on it. SQUEAK! Welcome to the Mouse House!

Server news
Since our last publication, we have gotten two new channels on the Discord server:
  • #anti-ea: a channel where you can vent out your grievances with Electronic Arts
  • #recent-changes: a channel powered by an RSS feed that shows recent changes to the wiki.
We also got two new bots on the server:
  • Discord.RSS: a bot that powers the #recent-changes channel and will not give you coffee; and
  • ServerHound: a bot that lists our server on Discordlist.net and provides some raid protection. Also doesn't serve coffee. Sorry.
In addition, administrator Frostwalker joined the server and has confirmed his identity. He has been given the "Wiki Administrator" role accordingly. Say hello to him!
