Dig those swimsuits out of storage and put on your sunscreen; summer is finally here (at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere). While you spend the next few months relaxing and working on your tan, don't forget to visit the wiki and join us in the summer fun. Here's what's happening around here...

No major game updates in May

May was a quiet month on The Sims Wiki, and also in the world of The Sims. Despite a few rumors and mumblings, May has come and gone without any updates to The Sims 4, and without any announced expansion, game or stuff packs.

June looks like it might bring some new content with it, though. An upcoming update that will introduce 350 new color swatches to the game has already been confirmed, though a release date has yet to be announced. The Sims 4 is also set to make an appearance at EA Play, which runs from June 7th to 9th. TS4 will have its own livestream at 12pm (Pacific time) on Saturday June 8th, and it appears as though there may be a new content announcement at that time. Stay tuned!

Oh Baby! New Featured Article

Okay, I'm jumping the gun by a couple hours, but it looks as though Baby is going to be the wiki's featured article for June 2019. Featured Articles are the result of dedicated volunteers working together to create the best content possible. Featured Articles are chosen by the community and are featured on the Main Page. We need members of the community to continue to collaborate to make great articles, and to nominate great articles for Featured Article status. There is plenty of content on The Sims Wiki that is just waiting to be highlighted—nominate it for Featured Article today!

Talk to us!

There are a lot of open community discussion threads in our forums that are awaiting your voice! If you're an active editor on the wiki (or even an "every once in a while" editor), your input is welcome and appreciated. The Sims Wiki is owned by its community (FYI: if you're reading this, then that includes you), so everyone in the community has the right to participate in decision-making discussions. Here's just a sample of what is currently up for discussion:

  • There is a proposal to rework and reorganize several of The Sims Wiki's official policies and procedures;
  • There is a thread to change the names of "collection" articles, such as Bug collecting and Metal collecting, for consistency with other articles of the same subjects;
  • There is a thread to discuss how to separate and organize pages for Sims that appear in multiple games (since The Sims 4's deviation from the normal storyline has been tripping us up since 2014);
  • There is a thread on potentially migrating The Sims Wiki off the Wikia platform to a new hosting service;

In addition to these community discussions, there are several open page deletion discussions that likewise need community input. As always, if you have an idea for something on The Sims Wiki that could be changed or improved, don't be afraid to visit the community discussions forum and start a new discussion about it.

Looking to help out more? Consider a user role

If you're a frequent editor on The Sims Wiki, and are looking to take on more tasks and help out, consider applying for additional user rights. These roles are given to editors who have proven themselves as skilled editors and good members of the community. Editors who have never applied for (or been nominated for) user rights can apply for a couple different positions:

  • If you want to do more to help The Sims Wiki combat vandalism, you may be a good candidate for rollback rights. Rollbackers have an extra tool that allows them to one-click revert vandalism, saving time in cleaning up after a vandal has struck. If you're interested to learn more about what this position does, go here.
  • Are you a long-term trusted editor who is looking to expand your tool-belt? Content moderatorship may be just what you're looking for. Content moderator is a relatively new position on The Sims Wiki. Content mods have many of the same wiki management tools as administrators, and they play a valuable part in managing the wiki's content and fighting vandalism. If you want to learn more about content moderator rights, click here.
Be safe online; practice internet security

Internet security and safety is always relevant and always important. Make sure you're doing all that you can to use the internet safely; protect your sensitive data, don't fall for the scams and the traps, and don't re-use your passwords! For more tips and tricks on how to protect yourself (not to mention your data and your money), read over this blog post. Do you know any details that I've missed; let me know in the post comments.
