The Sims 2 website

Hello Simmers,

EA has announced that they plan on shutting down The Sims 2 website on January 14, 2013. The shutdown will impact files uploaded to the Sims 2 Exchange, so now is your last chance to get items from the Exchange there.

EA cites dwindling numbers of TS2 as their main reason for shutting the site down, over three years after the release of The Sims 3. Although their reason makes sense, it's still sad to see it go, especially as it marks yet another step in the continuing 'sunset' of The Sims 2. While many people probably do still play TS2 (I'm one of them), there's no doubt that the majority of the audience has shifted to TS3, just as the audience shifted from The Sims to The Sims 2 when TS2 came out in 2004. This is the natural life cycle of video games and their supporting sites, for better or worse.
