Making money off advertisements has always been Wikia/FANDOM's model (they're a for-profit company), and it is not unique to Wikia. Some smaller wiki farms like ShoutWiki also rely on advertisements displayed next to user-created content for revenue. Wikia uses the CC BY-SA 3.0 license on most of the wikis hosted on the service which allows for text to be used for commercial purposes. Of course, I don't necessarily think this is wrong—Wikia obviously needs to make money to keep the service running—but it becomes a problem when it seems like Wikia is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs, given how the only reason why Wikia was ever profitable was because we worked for free to put up content that other people wanted to read. It's a bit of a precarious relationship, but it has only been recently that Wikia really has started to abuse it. This is what I am critical of.

And although I still dislike the name "The Sims Wikia", I definitely prefer it over "The Sims FANDOM" which just makes me grind my teeth with rage. If you have a heart, please save me the future dentist visits by not using that name.
