Welcome[edit source]

Hi, welcome to The Sims Wiki! Thanks for your edit to the Talk:Death flower page.

Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything about the wiki! (If you have questions about the game, please ask them in the Forum.) -- A morris (Talk) 22:26, 2010 February 26

Thank you, automated message Duskey 22:29, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

HI![edit source]

HI! And welcome to The Sims Wiki! How are you? I hope you stay with us! You can message me if you want! There are many things you can do on this wiki, espiscally helping out article stubs. Anyway, if you have any questions message me or an admin! K? Nice meeting you! JUNIPER LEE 23:06, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

Indeed there's alot of work to be done. The Sims is a huge universe and I see many pages are missing relevant info. I'll be sure to add stuff as I go along :) Duskey 10:51, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

Need a Hand[edit source]

Hey, I saw you just edit so I figured you're online. Can you go to the Glitches page and tell me if you see a picture on that page? Ironically, the Glitches page may be acting glitchy. Thanks! --LostInRiverview 07:04, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

I see a picture of three sims there in the right side. Maybe we need a Glithes page for the Glithes page. Duskey 07:06, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
I keep looking at the page's code and I cannot figure out why there's a picture there - I certainly didn't (intend to) add it, and it doesn't fit the page at all (except that it's a glitch :p ). Thanks for giving it a look! LostInRiverview 07:09, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
It's gone now anyway, I guess you figured it out. Glad to be of help. Duskey 07:16, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, someone edited the Needs image template so that all articles that have that notice on them would have a picture of the Twinbrook Baker Family! It's just that the Glitches page was the first one I noticed it on. Thanks again for your help! LostInRiverview 07:27, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Need ambitions info template[edit source]

Sure, you can use {{under development2}} or {{Missing-info|<Ambitions>}}. --a_morris (talk) 13:21, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

I have made the changes you suggested to {{under development2}}. --a_morris (talk) 20:37, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

"Perks"[edit source]

I understand the idea of getting away from the word Behavior/Behaviour and the argument it will no doubt spark, but it's arguable at least in some traits whether the perks are perks at all, case in point Absent-Minded... do we want to use the word 'perks' or is there a better work that embodies both positive and negative effects? LostInRiverview 07:22, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Ah yeah, I hadn't thought of that. My mind drew blanks on that that one. Facts... ingame data... something... abilities? No. It basically just needs to reflect that its text copied from the ingame tooltip. Duskey 07:28, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
And the game doesn't use a word to describe it? LostInRiverview 07:29, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
No, it just lists a short bullet list when you hover over a trait that your sim has. We'll think of a better word for it on the List of Traits talk page. Duskey 07:32, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Kids and fitness in TS2[edit source]

I didn't notice that kids could gain or lose fitness until I had installed Seasons. I don't know if that was added in Seasons, added in an earlier Pack, or is present in the base game. I don't think it's in the base game, but I am not sure. Dharden 05:46, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

I honestly can't remember either, I just added the confirmation template for good measure. I don't have Sims 2 installed at the moment so can't really check. | Duskey | 05:52, June 14, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry to barge on here and "eavesdrop" but I am 99% sure that fitness levels existed in all incarnations of TS2, including for children. For example, if memory serves me, Buck Grunt was a fat precreated sim in TS2. LostInRiverview 05:57, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you ![edit source]

Thanks for deleting that annoying page! :) Why was (the evil) Bleeh deleted? I hate her and am curious (ThesimsUk 17:20, June 14, 2010 (UTC))

I don't know who Bleeh is, I'm kinda new here myself. | Duskey | 17:27, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

500 edits[edit source]

'500 edits since February 26, 2010' it says. | Duskey | 15:07, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Hidden traits[edit source]

I didn't delete the article, since that might break links, but I did redirect it to Trait (The Sims 3)#Hidden Traits. Dharden 17:06, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

From what I can see, Big-T redirects to small-t, which now redirects to Trait. Makes sense to me. Dharden 19:32, June 15, 2010 (UTC)
Don't know offhand what the Rules on double redirects are, but I've fixed it so it's no longer a double redirect. Dharden 20:03, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Time Machine Talk[edit source]

About a sim hour after traveling to the future my sim randomly received around 80,000§. I don't read the notifications so I don't know what happened in the future for her to receive it. Sorry I couldn't give you any more information, I suggest that you remove it and/or simply note somewhere that it's unconfirmed or something Guffers 20:17, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Help with a template[edit source]

Duskey, if you can try taking out the line breaks between the if statements, like this:

{{#if:
...
}}{{#if:
...
}}

--a_morris (talk) 20:50, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

The problem is the sample of the template on the doc page, which adds the category to both pages. To get around this you can add {{#if: {{NAMESPACE}}|<namespace - leave blank for main>| ... }} or use {{Checkmns}} around the article category. --a_morris (talk) 13:58, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
The categorizing does work even when it is a subpage. (You hadn't updated the template on The Sims 3/Patch 12). Also sometimes the template or page the template is transcluded on will need to be refreshed to show the changes right away. Great work! --a_morris (talk) 20:47, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
To sort add |{{PAGENAME}} It's explained in the category description. --a_morris (talk) 21:29, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
I think the template just needed refreshing. --a_morris (talk) 22:04, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

Your opinion[edit source]

Hi again Duskey. I've seen you on so much in the last week or so, so I figured I'd ask your opinion of an idea I've been floating around my head. I want to see if we can implement some sort of Editor of the Month recognition feature on the mainpage. The basic idea is that editors that do a lot of good work for the wiki are nominated by their peers on a monthly basis (similar to the Featured Article voting process). For details, go here. I'm looking for any suggested improvements or criticisms before I try to push this wiki-wide. Thanks! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 14:41, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a ton![edit source]

That actually helped me a great deal! I already knew about the Traits template ({{Mental (traits)}}), so I went into that template and edited it so that every page with that template will be added to the Mental traits category. Now all I have to do is add the template to all the mental trait pages, which is better than adding the category then the template to all the pages. Again, thanks a lot! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 04:33, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Here, have this. Thanks again! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 04:35, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
AWARDS
No, actually I haven't been doing that. I agree it needs to be done, but I can only focus on one task at a time or I get distracted. When I go through, I can go back again and tackle that. LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 04:38, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
It was either that, a sunflower or a tulip - take your pick. You're right, a good award would be nice. Even a smiley face would be good, for users who are kind to other users. LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 04:43, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
Actually, in some pages, I did start using the {{clrl}} template, but I admit I didn't use it universally. The traits, in my eyes, are about 80% standardized, which is ok considering they were rushed in, but eventually I think the style of each will eventually match, through constant little edits. LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 05:16, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Image copyright[edit source]

I would suppose that, if a user draws/creates an image from scratch, that user would hold the copyright. I'm not sure about screenshots of a webpage, but I don't recall seeing copyright notices on webpage screenshots elsewhere. Dharden 16:56, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

Minor heads-up[edit source]

North American keyboards don't have an "AltGr" key. Dharden 07:25, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

There's an Alt key on either side of the spacebar, but they generally do the same thing. Dharden 07:50, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Resources[edit source]

Hey. I'm currently in the process of redesigning my user page, and I was looking for some of those icons you use. I know somewhere you linked to a resources page but I can't find it - can you please give me the link (meanwhile, I'll check my talk page, since it's probably there and I just don't know because I didn't think to look there until right this second. In fact, I should check there before I leave this message... Nope, it's not there [Wow, that was a nice long parentheses. In fact, I should stop it before the entire purpose of the sentence is lost.].), that would be just awesome! Thanks! --LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 07:33, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

p.s. To recap, If you have a link to the resource page, it would be appreciated!

That was unbelievably helpful! I'm digging my new links section on my userpage, and have some ideas for additional content. Thanks a lot! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 08:28, June 27, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Vandalism[edit source]

I noticed this around the time it happened. At least, I saw in the activity feed that Monster had edited his user page and noted that it was to remove vandalism. I gave the user a 1-day block, then upped it to three days because of their foul language.

As far as I'm concerned, a user can write about Sims they've created in their blog or elsewhere in their userspace. I'm not sure about the forums, but what this user did there seems a bit spammish. Dharden 12:22, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Woot![edit source]

Congrats on 1,555 edits... now you just need exactly 4,000 more. lol, I'm just kidding, but congrats on putting in a whole lot of time and hard work into improving this wiki! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 05:40, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

By the way, you can probably remove that Warning message on the page... it's been nearly 4 months! LostInRiverview (talk)(blog) 05:42, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

Table[edit source]

I don't know how you manage to get that table to work, but even when I do a null edit, I still manage to break it! The only way I've been able to find so far to keep it working is to un-center it... any ideas? --Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 18:04, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

That's probably not a bad thing that it happens like that. Maybe it helps bring people here. Plus rumors are always going to circulate. Speaking again about the table, I know that I am not intentionally adding or removing any lines, so it must be a software thing. --Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 18:54, July 8, 2010 (UTC)

What does that cheat do?[edit source]

I saw the cheat "enablelotlocking on/off on your page and I was wondering what that cheat does? Is there a page to tell what it does? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Koolj1994 (talkcontribs) 03:14, July 9, 2010

Warning box on the WooHoo page[edit source]

The color does make it stand out, though I personally prefer the previous style - and think that a warning box should contain the word "Warning". Dharden 03:25, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

It wasn't me who undid it. I just noticed the back-and-forth in the activity feed and took a look. BTW, the new color looks fine. Dharden 04:07, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

Image[edit source]

I didn't realize until after I deleted File:Balloon_handy.png that there was a reason I uploaded it in the first place; observe:

This is the one you uploaded:

This is the one I uploaded:

I don't know enough about images or image editing to bother trying to get rid of the white background, so I just uploaded a new one. If there are any others that seem to be duplicate, odds are they're not actually identical. Thanks for pointing that out, though - I'll pay more attention in the future. --Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 02:18, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Moving files[edit source]

Click the "Move" link at the top of the page. Give the title you want the page or file to have in the "To new title:" box. For images, the main option is whether or not to leave a redirect behind; for articles, there are also options to move the talk page and subpages. Since the main problem with images is filenames such as "screenshot-2.jpg" that will be reused, check the "File links" at the bottom of the image's page, load those articles in new tabs, and fix the image links in those articles. Dharden 13:49, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Image copyirhgt[edit source]

Affiliates[edit source]

Kingdom Hearts has an affiliates page. We could set one up here for The Sims Directory and the like. --a_morris (talk) 19:40, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia believes having both lists and categories are "synergistic", not redundant. We could put the table in the category description rather than make a new article. I've never tried to transclude a category before. If it doesn't work we can use the <categorytree> tag. --a_morris (talk) 20:27, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Tookute4me[edit source]

I agree, and thanks for doing the spadework on this. Dharden 22:29, July 11, 2010 (UTC) ETA: On second thought, I'm somewhat less certain about File:Cute Luv Guy.jpg, so I'll leave it be for the time being. Dharden 22:38, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

When you mark a page that you created for deletion, there's no doubt about it. It can just be deleted with the reason given as being "Author request". Files are usually less straightforward, and there may be a tendency to err on the side of caution - or at least, less of a sense of urgency. Dharden 22:50, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: 187.52.224.79 vandalism?[edit source]

IMO, it's more a difference of opinion about whether the direct links should be there. I checked the page for Create a Pattern, as you don't need to be registered to do that. It looks like you need to check the "I accept the terms" box to activate the download buttons, and I'm not sure bypassing that with direct links is really appropriate. If not for that, I'd have undone the edit. Dharden 03:39, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

That was just my personal opinion on that particular edit. If you want to undo it, go ahead - I won't say anything unless it turns into an edit war. Of course, if someone were to make a habit of removing direct links, that would be a different matter. Dharden 04:01, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

I'll sign up to join in on your project. Partly because I think you're on to something, and partly because some templates (such as {{warning}}) are protected, so editing them may be a challenge. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 16:37, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

File:Snapshot f909b02e d90d30ba.jpg isn't there when I looked. Maybe your browser was showing a cached version of the category page, or there might have been a bit of a delay before the deletion was reflected on the category page. Dharden 18:33, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't call myself an artist, but I do like to draw alot. I usually post my stuff on my deviantart page (http://kibarashi.deviantart.com/), but I don't really want to post anything here because it's not really meant for that xD In fact, I was thinking of taking that picture down because it sucked xD

Why do you ask?Kibarashi 20:06, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Reducing text sizes?[edit source]

If you are reducing the text sizes for gallery captions, please, please, 'please stop and undo it! For one thing, it adds excessive space between the caption and the thumbnail. For another, it's hard to read, especially with older eyes. Remember, not everyone who comes here looking to get - or to contribute - information will be young. Dharden 22:46, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

My apologies. Whatever is making the captions in some galleries appear so small, it wasn't those changes. Dharden 23:15, July 16, 2010 (UTC)
BAA! Now I find your blog entry which says it's Wikia that made those changes. Once again, my apologies for jumping on you. Dharden 23:45, July 16, 2010 (UTC)
You're probably right. If nothing else, bumping the caption size up a few pixels would make a difference. Dharden 00:13, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
No, those were fine. Dharden (talk) 00:23, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Admin[edit source]

You should totally apply! You know a lot more about technical stuff than I do, so don't worry about you "not knowing enough." You're never going to know everything (and if you did, where would the fun be in that?). Plus, with you as an admin, we can take over the world! Mwahahahaha!!! Well... not really. But you could delete your own pages.

You should definitely apply. The being able to delete pages thing is alone worth applying. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:08, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

He's thinking about it.--Danny(Monster2821) 04:11, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
While we're on the subject of you knowing more than me, do you know any way to get the countdown clock to not say "T minus" or "T plus?" I feel like I'm launching spaceships whenever I look at those timers. Thanks! -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:13, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
BTW I know he's thinking about it, that's why I'm trying to persuade him. I wouldn't try if I didn't know he was already considering it (and if I didn't think he'd do a good job at it). -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:13, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
BTW again, I hope you don't mind but I added a couple smiley ideas to your table on your sandbox page. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:48, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! I don't usually mess with javascript or css, expecially with admin powers, because I'm afraid I'll break something. Even though I know I can undo anything, I don't want to be the one to break it! -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 05:37, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
Alright alright, you win. I applied :p Duskey(talk)(blog) 10:27, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Country userboxes[edit source]

I can try. Dharden (talk) 04:18, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

BTW, I changed the UK box because British doesn't necessarily mean English. Dharden (talk) 04:24, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

I already did it for England and Scotland. You might want to check them out, templating is more your pidgin than it is mine. Dharden (talk) 04:48, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
Northern Ireland is part of the UK. "Ireland", taken by itself, refers to the Republic of Ireland. Dharden (talk) 05:29, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
A question regarding these boxes; where did you get the flags from? -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 05:59, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
As I understand it, it's largely a matter of self-identification. "British", as a nationality, applies to anyone from the UK. A resident of the UK might primarily self-identify as British regardless of which part of it they live in. OTOH, they might primarily self-identify as English, Scottish, Welsh, etc. So, for folks from the UK, MHO is that it shouldn't be a matter of what to call them, but of what they call themselves. Dharden (talk) 06:50, July 17, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I slipped into Old Netese for a bit. "OTOH" == On The Other Hand". "MHO" == "My Honest Opinion" or "My Humble Opinion". Dharden (talk) 13:46, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

3000 edits![edit source]

Celebrations! Duskey(talk)(blog) 04:11, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Congrats on 3,008 edits! You're nearly triple my current count, and I've been here just short of a year (I think 11 months today, actually).
This may seem a bit random to say, but if you ever want to chat live (versus a back-and-forth on talk pages), I'm trying to be online as often as possible on the IRC Channel (just in case someone should ever use it and want to talk). I've been on it a couple times and I daresay it doesn't get much use. Anyways, congrats again- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 04:15, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Caption size in galleries[edit source]

I've found out how to change it for an individual gallery, but have no idea if it can be done globally or if the three size options can be customized. The default seems to be medium, but to my eyes, medium is a bit too small. On the other hand, large seems to be a bit too large to really fit the gallery style. Dharden (talk) 01:23, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Huh. It could be an artifact triggered by the "new and improved" gallery styles. Maybe the text is the same, but it looks smaller because its surroundings have changed. Then again, maybe something is off in the default setting, because it sure looks smaller than regular text. Anyway, no matter why I was seeing it, the bit of CSS you came up with did the trick. Many thanks. Dharden (talk) 20:08, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I agree. It may be better to know that individual users can adjust it as they see fit. Dharden (talk) 21:48, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
