Images[edit source]

We appreciate the images you've contributed to the wiki, however it seems you forgot to add some essential information to them. To find images you've uploaded, see your contributions.

Licensing: All images must have their licensing information added. If the image is from The Sims series of games or contains the PlumbBob, it is copyrighted to EA. Add {{Copyright by EA}}.
If you've made the image yourself, you need to decide on the license. The Sims Wiki recommends a Creative Commons license. Unless stated otherwise the image will be assumed to be under the CC-BY-SA license.
See Category:Copyright tags for a list of available copyright options.

Filenames: The image(s) you uploaded contains either an invalid filename or a generic filename. Please avoid using slashes in your files / \, this causes the image to not show in articles. A generic filename is eg. 'screenshot-xx'. These will be overwritten when someone else uploads and image of the same name. In the future, please mark files with invalid or generic filenames with the {{move}} template and an administrator will move it if they haven't already been moved.

Duplicates: Some of your images were duplicates of images that already exist on our site. If you notice that the image you are adding already exists please do not upload it. Use the existing image instead. Be aware that duplicates will be deleted.

If you have any further questions about this message or this wiki, feel free to contact me on my talk page. a_morris (talk) 22:06, February 9, 2011 (UTC)

Help with copyrights[edit source]

I noticed that you had said that you would likely not upload images due to not understanding how to properly add copyright information.

First off, the whole purpose behind this is to respect copyright and the holders of that copyright. Since many of our images relate to The Sims series, likely many images uploaded are Copyrighted by Electronic Arts, Inc. To make it simple, keep this rule in mind: If a picture is from any of the games, contains Sims, contains PlumbBobs or shows box art for a game, it is copyrighted by EA. IF a picture is one of your own creation, you can assign the license (i.e. you're the copyright holder).

If you've gotten the picture from somewhere else, it gets a little more complicated. Often, images coming from Wikipedia or WikiMedia have licenses that allow the images to be re-used. Since the images uploaded there aren't owned by either Wikipedia or Wikimedia, it is important to follow the license of whatever image you get. Sometimes, you can use images that don't have an apparent license if you can justify their use. For example, if you upload an image of something and place it in an article where it has relevance, you can argue that your use of that image is fair and doesn't infringe on the copyright holder (this is the principle of Fair Use).

I know this seems a little complex at first, but myself and other administrators are around if you have questions or if you make a mistake while uploading (we've all made the same mistakes ourselves in the past). Just remember when you're uploading the photo to select an option from the Licensing drop-down menu, otherwise the photo won't be assigned a license.

So, don't be afraid to upload images, as I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out.
