RE: Featured article and poll[edit source]

Sorry to be a flake, but it just so happens that I will be unavailable this March as well - around March 10 to 14 (see here). I'll see if another admin is willing to take on the task while I'm gone. K6ka (talk | contribs) 02:51, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

No! This is not me! I'll do this! K6ka (talk | contribs) 03:20, March 5, 2014 (UTC)
Phew! Well, that was time I could've used to study for my science test spent unwisely (shame on me and my academic studies), but I at least got the Featured Article and Polls updated for this month. Feel free to chastise me if I screwed up anywhere in between. K6ka (talk | contribs) 04:04, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Next Battle[edit source]

This is a comment I recently posted on Lab's page and then I noticed that you were currently online so I posted it on your page, in case you might be able to start the next battle.

The next battle is just overdue to start. I didn't know where else to turn and I've been trying to add a couple of messages to talk pages, hoping to alert others but without luck. So I'm down to my last solution - contact an administrator. C.Syde65 (talk) 02:17, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Featured article nomination[edit source]

I deleted the nomination because I thought a user could only make one nomination for some odd reason. I'm not really thinking straight today. I might put it back up. StartUp talk 06:13, March 18, 2014 (UTC)

Sims Infobox and Career(s)[edit source]

I have been diving into the {{Sim2}} and {{Sim}} templates to see what is possible for Sims who are retired and have a part-time job. I got excited when I saw that there was a career and career2 parameter in the {{Sim}} template, but it seems that career is for {{Sim2}}'s career parameter and career2 is for the {{Sim3}}'s career parameter. So is there a way to list in a Sim's infobox that they are retired and have a part-time job? Icemandeaf (talk) 22:21, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

65.129.158.170 and 65.78.158.183[edit source]

I've already left this message on Mathetesalexandrou's page, but since you're active, I thought I'd leave this message here as well.

I was wondering if 65.129.158.170 could be a sockpuppet of 65.78.158.183 by any chance. They both start with "65" and they both have negative editing history which leads me to question if they could be from the same location and if they could be the same user. Thanks for the links. I stole some code from a warning template on Wikipedia and used that for the talk page links. I changed the wording a bit too... will edit the MediaWiki welcome templates soon to reflect those wording changes. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 02:55, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

RE:Unused files[edit source]

Oh sorry, I didn't realize. I was gathering them up for a project and uploading them to this wiki as I was going to copy and paste them on my iPhone and upload them to somewhere else - an app on my phone. How do I delete them? --{{SUBST:User:Lizard13/Sig}} 15:51, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Spam filter[edit source]

Yep. I added that line just so I don't get PWN3D by the abuse filter again, like I did here. If this wiki had a Village Stocks, I'd probably be in it. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 00:26, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, and aren't administrator rights bundled with the bureaucrat package (so technically the sysop flag isn't required)? --k6ka (talk | contribs) 00:27, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
Hmm, now that is interesting information. The good thing about MediaWiki wikis is that it's easy to test and reverse the damage quickly. Though not without leaving a permanent scar in the server's records...
Do we update the The Sims Wiki:Administrators page? It currently says that "Bureaucrats are the same as regular administrators, except they have the ability to add and remove user rights for other users. Bureaucrats can only have their bureaucrat flag removed by themselves or Wikia Staff, and can remove the user flags of any other user (aside from bureaucrats or Wikia Staff). Bureaucrats technically do not need to have sysop flags, though in practice they almost always have sysop flags anyways." Which, we now know, is technically incorrect. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 00:50, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

RE: A notice[edit source]

Okay then. I just thought it was worth a try. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:55, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

That's alright. Normally I would just go 'you deserved what you got' and I wouldn't stop to give them advice. But with that particular user, she seems to be a little different from an outright vandal / sockpuppet.

Of course she's still violating the regulations on this wiki so I wouldn't directly show strong support on her getting unblocked. The thing is it's hard to know when a user deserves to be unblocked or not.

I'm not trying to say that I should get involved in any further matters regarding ILoveSims5 or her sockpuppets, but I would say that as a non-administrator, I should at least know what to do in a situation in a community discussion without directly handling situations or undermining administrative actions. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:19, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

Alright then. I suppose getting involved in the Forum:Unblock system page may be enough. But some people can never be sure when leaving messages on those blocked user talk pages might be going too far. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:28, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

Contradiction[edit source]

According to this page here, the consensus for changing requirements for rollback was favourable, and yet this page clearly states that one has to be a rollback before they can be an administrator.

If what I've read is correct, then those two pages contradict one another, or one of them hasn't been updated. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 09:05, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Not supporting my nomination[edit source]

  • While my heart is certainly in the right place, and I have almost definitely learned everything I need to be an administrator, I actually think it's fortunate that you haven't supported my nomination for the following reasons.
  • While most people normally take time over their edits, I am always in a rush because I feel that I have a mountain of things to do and I just want to get them all done. As a result I often forget to add several bits of information, so then I have to go back and type in the information that slips out of my mind - by which time other editors may already have noticed.
  • I often tend to do what many consider to be "A rough job which needs to be polished". I remember making an edit on a page, and another editor came along and tried to improve the grammar of my edit - but in doing so they re-wrote the opposite to what I had intended.
  • I have made many mistakes, most of which I am unlikely to repeat - but then there's always a new generation of mistakes, in addition to those mistakes that had no one else pointed them out to me, I would never have noticed.
  • Also when others try to explain things to me, I'm in too much of a hurry to actually take the time to consider and understand what they've said. This explains why I often misinterpret advice - such as "taking a step back and think a little bit deeper about what you're doing". Instead I might think of it as "wasting my time thinking about this when I could be jumping ahead to something else".
  • Naturally I'm often under the impression that nothing is wrong which is why I express my confidence and experience whilst failing to notice any advice "I am strongly advising you to stop getting involved in any further matters regarding ILoveSims5 or her sockpuppets". Instead I might see it as "stop trying to play the piano when you don't have any arms" - Of course that's not what you really meant, but I was in too much of a hurry to understand otherwise.
  • I can't see myself making any severe mistakes with those administrative tools but with those other mistakes, it doesn't look good. And of course a person can't always predict what they might or might do wrong. Recently I saw a nomination for administration-ship and thought "why has no one nominated me"? The answer was soon to be there waiting.
  • I'm unlikely to repeat this mistake "making false assumptions regarding a certain user and their sockpuppets". Also any 'obsessions' that I may have had with trying to weed out any ILS5 sockpuppets and trying to discourage her from evading her block have come to a mature end. But that still doesn't mean that the 'charges' have been cleared...yet.
  • Not fully understanding phrases like "level-headed" and "fall through" are simply because I'm not very familiar with them, or I simply haven't learned what they really mean.
  • Now that I'm aware of these mistakes, I'm sure I can learn from them, and spend more time on things rather than jumping ahead. With that, I'll develop into a much better editor at a remarkably quick pace - being a quick learner.

I have left similar comments on Lab and K6ka's talk pages, while most of the above has been written as a response to your particular message about whether I was ready to become an admin. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:13, June 25, 2014 (UTC)

Questions[edit source]

Two random, yet good questions came to my mind.

Would it be possible for a bureaucrat to demote another bureaucrat against the regulations of the wiki, or would the "permission error" sign show up?

Could an administrator (acting in bad faith) block a bureaucrat by any chance? I know these may sound like random questions, but could either of them happen? -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:36, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

Re: TS4 timeline discussion[edit source]

Hi,

I have followed and still following the discussion with interest. Les Sims Wiki has not yet taken a final decision, I have to discuss it further with Julien2660 (sysop) and the rest of the community. However, I do not think the tab system will be selected because it needs to edit all the pages so that everything is harmonized and it seems a little extreme as it does not seem to be many Sims returning in The Sims 4. I'll let you know when a decision will be taken.

A new idea for object pages[edit source]

With the help of Ben, I've put together something that we can use on object pages instead of using {{Object}} twenty times or something, to the point the page takes a long time to load and we jump the node count limit that's oh-so hardcoded into MediaWiki. You can see a small portion of Aquarium with the new design here. Basically, everything is now merged into a table, and the Description "*is*" included, it's just collapsed so long descriptions don't make the page 30 miles long on page load. And I'm sure new columns can be added. We don't need the "Motive" ratings for each object, do we? --k6ka (talk | contribs) 21:34, August 13, 2014 (UTC)

Made some adjustments here. The information is obviously untrue, but I guess we can merge sections into "Notes", which should make the table a little less squashed. Hey, it beats having 60 {{Object}} templates, right? --k6ka (talk | contribs) 21:40, August 13, 2014 (UTC)

Hello! I have never spoken with you before but I chose the two Bureaucrats/Admins on this wiki that have been active recently. I have proof of somebody sock puppeting on this wiki, they admitted to it on the Pretty Little Liars chat. Look at my profile for the screenshot of them admitting to it. I just didn't want you to have to deal with sock puppeting because it is an aggravating issue on our wiki. Best of luck with this rule-breaker! Template issues[edit source]

Hi LiR!

I did post on the talkpage of this template, because there is a problem with the coding. But the talkpage edit didn't come up in the feed. The template keeps incorrectly tagging the neighborhood as Fanon:Moonlight Falls on fanon pages. I don't know how to fix it. I thought I'd bring it to an admin's attention, in case other users notice it too, and spam up the wiki feed, trying to fix something on their page, that is probably the template's fault. :)

RE: Sim vs Simbio[edit source]

There's nothing essentially different between these two. There are only 2 differences. 1) Simbio has fewer parameters that are covered in {{Simbio-start}}; it doesn't let you use sex or family for example because apparently it's redundant. Well, of course you can omit it in the regular Sim template, but I guess the person who started this method just wanted a safety measure. 2) Simbio doesn't have the header that shows the Sim's name.

That's basically it. Nikel Talk Vote! 07:11, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

Lower sound quality for in-game music[edit source]

I noticed that you have managed to trim, fade in/out, and lower the sound quality of in-game extracted music, like you did at File:The Sims 2 University Theme Sample.ogg. Mind explaining how you did that?

I've tried a couple of it with other The Sims 2 tunes. I'm using Audacity for this because it's the best free audio editing program I know of. I've gone through exporting the extracted MP3 files, lowering the bit rate quality of the file to 64 kbps. Seems to lower the sound quality, but I'm just curious as to how you did it. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 03:32, September 13, 2014 (UTC)

The truth is that lots of other people have done it in the past, and somehow they've gotten away with it. That makes it harder to determine what is supposed to be discussed on a talk page and what isn't.
I'll watch out for this "observation thing" in future, but that's literally the only reason I went wrong that time. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 22:13, October 8, 2014 (UTC)
I did catch another experienced user making a similar mistake on this page a couple of months ago. I know that as an experienced user, I shouldn't be making these sort of mistakes or forgetting these basic rules, even if another experienced user has. But I do have a solution to help me avoid them.
This user blog that has been around for several months, has been helping to remind me not to repeat certain mistakes, or fail to follow basic rules. It may sound crazy but it really does help. But it only helps as long as those mistakes that I've made are actually on the list. As for the last two mistakes which I've made recently, I have added them to the "ropes" list. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:36, October 9, 2014 (UTC)

Re: A notice[edit source]

Tactics can and will be improved if necessary.

I do tend to be rather pre-cautious from time to time. But if pre-cautions stand in the way of good faith, then I'm afraid I can't and won't continue to engage in further actions around sockpuppetry. Most of that information was added there two months ago. It's true that I may not fully understand as much as I think I know, but I probably understand more than what other people think - even if I understand only slightly more than what others think I do.

The ILoveSims 3 error was meant to be a precaution, not an assumption, and the reason I undid those edits by Sims2fan1998 was because there was no evidence that the said information was correct, and it seemed unlikely as well. I did assume that the user was acting in good faith which is probably different from actually assuming good faith. It wasn't that I didn't believe that there was a possibility that what the user had contributed was correct. It was just that I didn't want to leave information that hadn't been confirmed to be true, and come back to find that another user had removed it, confirming it to be false.

  • What am I meant to do if I suspect a user of sockpuppetry and not take "pre-cautions" or engage in actions that demonstrate a lack of good faith?
  • Is this what you would consider good faith, even if the user in question was an admin?
  • Can I remove the formal warning template (and keep the rest of the notice) on my talk page without objection?

Being pre-cautious - or whatever it is that prevents me from assuming good faith - seems to be a weakness of mine, but should I fully understand it, I will be able to avoid it. Not engaging in any further actions and taking a formal warning into account may just be the tail end of what I need to grow as an editor.

Already I've started to put new tactics in place (starting from the 10th October) that are helping to stop me making any avoidable mistakes while editing (at least not mistakes that are much more frequent). They are also used to help me not feel so obliged to do things.

As of yesterday I have removed the formal warning template, and left the rest of the message. As of yesterday I am taking no more actions surrounding ILS5 whether people like it or not, this means that I will refuse any invitation to participate in any further actions surrounding this user, even if others want me to participate, my refusal to participate may make other user's jobs easier, they may make them harder, but I don't care. (I was already starting to lose interest in keeping up to date with the latest ILS5 sockpuppets by the time you removed my investigations, so I may eventually have removed them myself). As of today I have removed the "overall status" column to my user blog. So that's it, my latest tactics are clear. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 23:20, October 25, 2014 (UTC)
I am ready to do what you ask of me, but I like you to consider asking (not telling) me in a less strict tone. Next time I'm sure a nice and easy request is all it takes to get me to do what you ask and correctly. Strictness and bluntness will only put me under pressure, especially since aside from what I added to my sandbox, I've actually been doing a lot better lately, being focused on editing and not doing the things that I get reprimanded of doing. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 02:06, October 27, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Your information on your Sandbox[edit source]

The revision was deleted due to sensitivity issues, but since Nikel23 is an administrator there's no need to undelete the revision to link it to him, since he can view the deleted revisions himself. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:02, October 26, 2014 (UTC)

Really? I was able to view the diff just fine even after it was deleted. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:10, October 26, 2014 (UTC)

Boyd Wainwright's haircolor...[edit source]

For all we know, maybe it turns out that you're lost in Riverview, but Riverview is lost in Boyd's haircolor. As in, the Wainwright Hair is actually like a chameleon, a white color that changes shine and highlights depending on the general climate and pressure in the Riverview area.
