The '''Alvi family''' is the poorest family in [[Sunset Valley]] in the beginning of the game, having but 600 Simoleons in the family funds. The family consists of [[Iqbal Alvi]] and his two sons, [[Miraj Alvi]] and [[VJ Alvi]]. Their poverty can stem from the fact that Iqbal works in the business industry, but his lifetime goal is to simply have a perfect aquarium, hence his little drive to earn. Before the game, it is implied through their bios that Iqbal was married to an unknown woman, who got fed up for unknown reasons and abandoned her husband and sons. This caused a rift between Iqbal and his son VJ, who believes that his mother left because of his father. However, other than the biographies, there is no memory or record of a Mrs. Alvi. 
 
One theory is that Iqbal may have been seeing other women as the bedroom holds a nice, expensive bar decked out in an alarming hot pink leopard print. The rest of the house has odd patterns too but the location of this kind of bar and the fact that it isn't found in the homes of other poor families may point to other women. Perhaps before Miraj was born or old enough to understand. In fact he'd still be a bit young too understand, explaining why VJ blames his father and Miraj doesn't. It isn't certain, but it's a notable theory.
 
It is possible for the player to let Iqbal marry for love or simply for financial assistance. With story progression left on, it is probable that VJ may pursue a romantic relationship with his good friend, [[Lisa Bunch]] .
