The bonsai tree is an object and a plant in The Sims 4. It is a type of potted plant that unlike other decorative plants, Sims can trim into different shapes and designs. The bonsai tree costs §210 and is found in the "Activities and Skills" section in build mode, under "Creative". Trimming it develops a Sim's gardening skill. In The Sims 4: Seasons, it also builds the flower arranging skill.

While a bonsai tree can be purchased from build mode like any other object, there is a way to gain one from gardening. First, a Sim needs to graft a daisy and a strawberry. Then they need to plant the bonsai buds into the ground, or into a planter bowl. After planting the seeds, a Sim needs to take care of the growing bonsai shrub, like any other plant. When the bonsai shrub has reached excellent quality, it can be converted into a decorative bonsai tree for §25.

If a Sim has a low gardening skill, there is an option to shape the bonsai tree into a randomly generated design. After a Sim has gained more levels in gardening, they have the "Prune Shape..." option, that allows the player to choose from five different designs. After a Sim has trimmed the bonsai tree, they have the option the examine it, which will give them a happy moodlet. Sims who have achieved level 8 in the gardening skill can re-grow the foliage for §50.

A bonsai tree can be found in FutureSim Labs, that sometimes needs to be trimmed in order to complete a work task.[TS4:GTW]
