Sims can get promoted if they have enough friends and the right Skills! But they also can get demoted, lose Skillpoints or money. That might happen if you get a chancecard and answer it wrong. Your sims also might get fired!
There are ten promotions in each career and many Sims have the Lifetime Want to reach the top of a specific career.
