In ''The Sims 3'', children are more depended independent than ever unlike in previous gamegames. While they still cannot cook (with the exception of the [[toy oven]], ) they're  are however capable of retrieving quick meals and leftovers from the refrigerator. Children also no longer need supervision of a [[babysitter]] when left alone in the house. They are capable of using their [[cellphone]] for the first time (albeit strangely, as they are unable to call emergency [[service]]s). It's also possible to have children make money on their own, as there are activities they're able to do that makesmake profit (such as fishing, painting, or selling lemonade/bake goods).
