There is no need to buy new Everyday outfits, as wardrobes already contain all of them. New outfits of other types can be bought on [[Communitycommunity lot]]s, though a Sim can only have one of each at any given time.

*Outerwear (''[[The Sims 2: Seasons]]'')

Sims receive a new set of clothing when they [[Birthday|age]]. Otherwise Sims must go to [[Communitycommunity lot]]s to purchase more clothes. Since clothes are bought for the household, not for the individual Sim, Sims can buy clothes for other ages, and for the opposite [[gender]]. So, teens, adults, and elders can buy for toddlers; and teens and adults can buy for their next life stage. However, [[young adult]] clothing can only be bought on [[college]] community lots, so teens cannot plan their college wardrobe ahead of time. Also, young adults getting ready to leave campus cannot buy their adult clothing in advance. (Young adults can go to other areas and buy adult clothing, but will not keep it when they leave campus.)

There are no longer clothing shops as simsSims have acessaccess to all outfits except special career outfits. In ''The Sims 3'', players have the ability to customize the pattern and color of every article of clothing. Shoes are now separate pieces from the rest of the clothes, and every outfit category has the ability to choose different tops and bottoms. A new feature in The Sims 3 is that Sims can now choose one of three different outfits forfrom each category of clothing that they willand wear them periodically.
