Outings return in ''[[The Sims 3: Late Night]]'' as a new way of keeping a group of Sims together. It is an enhanced version of the outings from ''[[The Sims 2: Nightlife]]''. In Late Night, grouping was a very easy option but it is only available when two Sims have a medium/high relationship or in relation to each other. When they group, the actor and target Sim(s) will have small blue plumbobs hovering in a clockwise direction around the top of their head(s), it is a lot more simpler than in Sims 3 base game because, in the base game, the actor Sim, for example, can phone a friend/acquaintance to meet each other at, for instance, the library, they will both meet at the location, when the actor Sim wants to go to a restaurant, the target Sim won't follow the Sim because they were not told to do so because there is no interaction allowing this to happen. Now in this expansion, a group containing 2 - 8 Sims can go to bars, lounges, clubs, swimming pools etc. but apparently not at a Sim's house. Two separate Sims with two different groups is not allowed. When the actor Sim is either tired, going to work/school or somewhere by themselves, the group will disband but if a Sim with a Party Animal trait may want to continue the group and might remain.

Dating returns with ''[[The Sims 3: Generations]]''. The Sims are able to date others the same way they did before in ''The Sims 2''. Dating only occurs to Sims who are of Romantic Interest, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Fiance/Fiancee, Husband/Wife can only do this, instead of a blue plumbob hovering clockwise over their heads, they are two pink hearts. It only occurs with two Sims, if there are more, it turns into a group.
