Sims only have access to one easel at the beginning, and can only paint classic paintings with it. Other painting types unlock as a Sim's painting skill improves. Any Sim can paint, though children have the Creative Art Thou Activity Table which serves a similar function to the easel. Painting is heavily influenced by [[emotions]], and 6 special emotional paintings are available to paint. Sims can unlock additional easels by advancing up the [[Painter]] career. Sims can also carry easels in their [[inventory]].
However if a sim is [[tense]] or [[Uncomfortable]], a notification will pop up saying "(Sim Name) is too uncomfortable/ tense to do this!". To cut a long story short, it means the Sim cannot use during these two emotions. [[Dazed]] sims would be at a disadvantage if using as the rate of learning painting is slower.
