Barney is adopted by [[Fanon:Lawrence Gallagher|Lawrence]] and [[Fanon:Maggie Gallagher|Maggie Gallagher]]. They adopt him for the purpose of hoping that their daughter, [[Fanon:Karissa Gallagher|Karissa]] won't be as eager to grow up. Karissa raises and takes care of Barney, but the topic of her growing up didn't fade away. In fact, Barney is implied to be faithful to Karissa by siding with her when it comes to the topic.
When Karissa is deep into her teen years, Barney is the first of the family to meet her boyfriend, [[Fanon:Jared Parker|Jared Parker]]. He is impartial to Jared when they meet. He eventually reunites with Karissa's brother, [[Fanon:Dennis Gallagher|Dennis]] when he comes to visit for an anniversary party. After Karissa is kicked out of her home by Lawrence, Barney is taken care by him and Maggie. However, when Maggie divorces Lawrence and kicks him out, Barney is taken care by her as a request from Karissa.
