'''1990s'''

In 1991 she appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show where she finally gave her reason on why she left Hollywood for a little while. She said this during the interview:

<blockquote class=note>''"Dealing with loss sucks''
It feels like your world has gone black, like you've lost everything. It feels like you want to be with that person. Ever since Karen's passing, I couldn't bare to be in the spotlight anymore, seeing all those paparazzi coming up to me and taking photos of me just didn't feel right, it felt like an invasion of privacy. I tried to do something, I tried to get her help, but it was too late for that. If I had known earlier the consequences I would've done something. I would've saved her. And at that point I wanted to be left alone, by the world. If you are watching this from heaven, I love you Karen Carpenter."</blockquote>

In the 90's Cecilia didn't do a lot of acting, but she started to executive produce and direct iconic 90's TV Shows such as Saved by The Bell, Twin Peaks, and even My So-Called Life, the show where her daughter Ria played Angela. The only two films Cecilia has acted in are The Silence of the Lambs where she played Clarice Sterling, and Pulp Fiction where she played Mia Wallace.

'''2000s'''

In the 2000s Cecilia started to focus more on pursuing her directing career while acting at the same time.
