In fact, Don didn't even remember Nicole until adult hood, after he was already engaged to [[Cassandra Goth]]. Being a young mother, Nicole was unable to attend university, which was a great disappointment to her because she is a knowledge aspiration Sim.
As an adult, Nicole joined the Navy, a creating a second generation of Smyth Sailors. Although Nicole loves her child dearly, she is more focused on her career. Nicole sent Cody to Simasota Military Academy, a military boarding school, when he became a teen. While at the academy, Cody reconnected with an old childhood friend, the now infamous Angela Pleasant, and Nicole's motherly instincts showed when he started a relationship with Angela which Nicole initially disapproved of.
