Nina was born in Hidden Springs as the elder of the twin daughters of Flamenco and Katrina Caliente. She and her sister were so close to their parents, especially their father, Flamenco. However, Flamenco died in a fire incident, causing the twins' life and personality to changed forever. She and her family then moved to Sunset Valley thanks to Cornelia Goth's suggestion.

At some point in her high school years, Nina would date Malcolm Landgraab, even though he only toying with him as she often enjoyed flirting with other guys, including Mortimer Goth. She and her sister also enjoyed bullying other students in the school, especially those who ''unpopular''.
In one day, Nina broke up with Malcolm for a reason. When Malcolm came to visit her, she mocked and shooed him, claiming that she could find other guy which hundred times better than him.
During the prom party, both Nina and Dina didn't get partners for date for some reasons. When a fire incident occured, Nina separated from Dina. Fortunately, Dina was saved by firefighters, alongside Leona who attempted to rescue her. Nina and her mother both presence witnessing Dina reconciled with Leona.
Nina and Dina then accepted as part of Leona's group.
