Paulette and Gilbert were awfully worried about Marcia, as her health was not getting better, despite their constant nursing. They had no social life and spent a lot of time at Marcia's bedside.

When they were old enough to go to university, they really wanted to go there and lead successful studies in order to become as rich as the rest of their dreaded family. However, they sacrifiedsacrificed these college years they dreamt about and spent those at home instead in order to not leave Marcia alone until her utter recovery. They were kind of saddened at their sacrifice but deep inside their hearts, they knew that they had made the right choice.

When they came back from their tropical trip, they were decided to travel again. But they couldn't. Paulette effectively contracted a disease and her health soon decreased, inescapably. Gilbert was desperate to see his wife in this state and did not want to live the dark years of Marcia's depression again.

However, fate would exempt him from thsthe long and cruel anguish, as Paulette died in less than one week. Gilbert then had to raise their daughter all alone. Hopefully, Margaux learnt about Paulette's tragic an untimely death, and she invited Gilbert and Emma in order to help the widower raising Emma, not letting the two all alone.

Gilbert brought Marcia's, Charles's and Paulette's urns and when he entered the taxi that brought them to the airport, he glared one last time at the small mansion that house most o his life, but also all his suffering and pain. Then he looked away, staring at the road that would lead him to a new life, far from this mansion and the bad memories it contained.
