In the Fanon
Reed starts off in A Garden of Roses by very nearly coming to blows with Larch in the council circle, only to be reprimanded by Willow. He also comments behind Larch's back that he is 'a waste of time', which causes further tension and in fact could be seen spark off the chain of misfortune which eventually leads to the birth of Cherry Rose. Reed, however, is unaware of this and continues about his daily business of fishing, stopping only to support his daughter Holly in her parental studies (and at one point to pull Larch out of the lake). Despite maintaining a cynical appearance during this incident, Holly noted that it left him a little shaken for the rest of the day.

When Lily finds herself afflicted with a mysterious illness (which soon turns out to be morning sickness), Reed allows her to take refuge in his cabin, even grumblingly allowing her to quarantine herself in there. Although he remains unaware of his younger daughter's pregnancy, his suspicion of Larch continues to grow and, after expressing his disapproval of Willow's supposed leniency towards him, warns her that he would 'bring [her] something much worse than a spiteful tongue'.

During Lily's brief absence and Larch's unfortunate tenure as Nurturer, Reed, to his later outrage, allows his softer side to shine through, proving a surprisingly patient assistant to both Moss and Oak as they recover from the mishap with the frill.
