Thatcher's romantic life was often the subject of gossip in Hidden Springs. He married five times (first and last marriage being to Jessica Colby), and frequently stepped outside his marriage(s). These events were made public after his death.

Thatcher lived in a more traditional mansion while Ronald built a large boxy estate for him and his wife. How either men came up with their large fortunes is unknown (Thatcher's wealth is revealed to been passed down to him by his parents in the Sims 3).

After his first wife divorced him, Thatcher asked Malcolm to marry him. Malcolm had actually been engaged to a woman named Katherine Kaligraphy at the time, but he broke it off to marry Thatcher, leaving Katherine absolutely heartbroken, but neither of the two men cared. Unfortunately, Malcolm died in a freak fire accident shortly after marrying Thatcher in a civil ceremony.
