It is one of the possible results of using the '''ZRX-9000 Science Research Station''' to perform the Gene Splicing Experiment on a seed. In addition, when [[PlantSim#The Sims 3: University Life|PlantSims]] successfully "Try For Baby", the result is a Forbidden Fruit seed.
The Forbidden Fruit seed is a Special plant, and requires level 7 [[Gardening (The Sims 3)#Abilities|Gardening]] skill to plant. Once planted, it will require 4 days to fully bloom and be ready to be harvested. The player will be able to select "Tend Garden" or "Pick Forbidden Fruit". "Tend Garden" will produce an edible fruit, which will be placed in the Sim's inventory. "Pick Forbidden Fruit" has a 50/50 chance of producing an edible fruit or a PlantSim baby. The quality of the Forbidden Fruit plant plays a factor on the PlantSim baby's starter traits. A Forbidden Fruit plant only produces one fruit (or baby), and becomes barren after being harvested.
