As you know, The Sims Wiki currently has a number of profiles/pages on different social media venues. Specifically, we are represented in social media mainly through [https://www.facebook.com/TheSimsWiki our Facebook fan page] and [https://twitter.com/thesimswiki Twitter profile], but we also have a player group on {{WP|Steam (software)|Steam}} and profile on YouTube (which is currently empty and unused). These pages have thousands of followers and we have engaged with many members of the Sims community over the years.

However, posts to these profiles have been especially light and sporadic, and as a result we're missing an opportunity to promote our wiki and interact with other Sims players. The main cause of this is the lack of moderators/account admins, posting content and interacting with the public. Presently, it is an agreed-upon custom to allow on-wiki administrators to obtain moderation privileges on our social media sites. However only a couple admins actually have requested these privileges, and even fewer actually use those privileges regularly. As a result, these pages often go days or weeks without new content or posts, and as a result we miss out on countless opportunities to interact with people and to promote the wiki.

There are many users on the wiki that are not necessarily administrators but who are engaged in the community, and could be just as engaging if given access to moderation privileges on social media sites. An increased number of moderators would allow us to post content more frequently and become more engaged with our followers. As well, new moderators may have new or unique ideas for how to engage with the public, or ways to promote the wiki through social media.

In light of this, I would like to propose the creation of a special position, "Social Media Representative." Successful applicants for this position would be given moderator rights to The Sims Wiki's Facebook page and posting/admin rights on the Twitter profile, as well as other privileges on other media sites. The applications would be handled through community voting. There would be no hard limit on the number of representatives we could select, nor any firm minimum requirements for the position, though obviously the applicants would have to be trusted by the community in order to be approved. On our social media pages, these users would receive rights to post, moderate and otherwise administer the pages. However, they would not allowed to delete the page or give moderator rights to other users; those rights would remain in the hands of wiki admins/bureaucrats.

:::I support this special position because it would be really helpful if someone holds the position and help promote the wiki through social media. I have some considerations though. While Facebook page has a special role that limits what you can do, how about Twitter? What if the user who holds the position misuse the privileges and hijack the account? TSW Twitter account is basically a regular account, right? ==Conclusion==
I don't think we are going to get any more participants in this discussion so let's get this all fixed out. There will be a new special position added to the special positions page, titled ''Social Media Representative'' and to become one, a user would have to be a trusted member of the community, and would have to be active in community discussions. For now, I'd say we should have no limits as to who could be one, but if we reach an amount where there is enough, we can just close the position. And, of course, the user would have to be active on Facebook/Twitter/et cetera. Thanks for participating and what not...
