The Delete Family button actually does not shred off the Sims in the family from the neighbourhood leaving a 1kb character file. It unlinks the Sims, and deletes all of their character file except what is absolutely necessary for them to exist (Leaving about a 20kb file), which leaves them in the same state as pre-made deceased Sims who are unresurrectable. According to the article, "The game does not properly clean out all references to the Sim, which means that memories, gossip, relationships, Sim Wants and Fears, etc. that involve the deleted Sim are now corrupted, as they point to non-existent data." This is not true, because their data that is necessary for this is still existent.
But still, I do not recommend using this button. I mostly used it for testing purposes, and while I do not quite think using it is nearly as severe at the article makes it out to be, I am not saying it is safe!  Mariaw (talk) 03:33, March 30, 2018 (UTC)
:I suspect you read Chris Hatch's reply on a thread on MTS. I actually agree with you, because I've seen deceased unresurrectable ancestors pop up in thought bubbles (in Sims' dreams and with the fingerprint scanner) and it would make sense that they are still valid in the game. The only thing that we know of that gets deleted is their appearance data from the character file, and they get unlinked and set as 'Unknown' so that the player can't get the option to resurrect them (it forces an error on the Sim or the game crashes). I've also been experimenting with moving occupied lots between neighborhoods by packaging them (throwaway hoods, obviously), and I haven't found anything that could cause the game to corrupt. In my case, it only created a bunch of Sims (with no character data, unlinked and set as 'Unknown') in the new neighborhood that playables had memories of, but I haven't seen any unknown Sims or weird memories/relationships. So it basically bloated the new neighborhood with unwanted Sims. However, I would never recommend this or encourage anyone to do this, I just wanted to test it for myself and see what happens. ::I actually didn't even know about that article, I knew this from my own experience; I did it for testing and storytelling purposes (I have been playing the neighbourhood for a LONG time, by the way, and have seen absolutely no evidence of corruption. I don't recommend using the delete button for anything other than testing purposes, though). And you are also correct on what happens when moving occupied lots to the lots and houses bin, which I also know from experience. :::Basically, he shared an opinion similar to ours, that deleting Sims from the family bin does not necessarily cause corruption, as the game leaves enough data to be able to read the Sim's character file, relationships and memories. Same would happen with Sims that residents of a house moved to the bin knew. They will not have a complete character file in the new neighborhood, just enough to be able to appear in memories and relationships. I tested this by packaging a family of four with a complete set of deceased ancestors and relationships outside the household (first generation of ancestors had no character data and were unlinked and 'unknown', while the second generation was completely resurrectable and were not unlinked, though none of the ancestors had a gravestone because they were killed with the Death Token). All ancestors, as well as every Sim that the family had memories of (not every Sim that they knew, just Sims that appeared in their memories) were transferred, but had no character data and were unlinked, though they still appeared correctly in the family tree and memories.
:::This makes me wonder if it's possible to 'fix' neighborhoods where players moved houses to/from the bin and if they could be packaged in a way that would not create redundant Sims (like Kat and Kim families). Mate1234 (talk) 11:26, April 21, 2019 (UTC)
::::I'm pretty sure it's possible to fix that by removing all the household Sims' relationships and family tree relations from all other Sims outside of the household before packaging the file (and then maybe re-adding them after packaging). If they have already been packaged, when they are moved into a new neighbourhood, the redundant Sims can either be fixed with this guide, or deleted entirely with this guide.
::::I also forgot to mention that deleting a Sim's tombstone (without the No Unlink on Delete mod installed) does the same as deleting Sims from the family bin, shredding their appearance info, unlinking the character file, but leaving enough so that the game can read the Sim's data. Mariaw (talk) 15:45, April 21, 2019 (UTC)
:::::So that means if an user has accidentally moved an occupied house, deleted a gravestone or a Sim from the bin, they can use the resurrection guide to restore the Sims in the original and new neighborhood. I remember deleting Darleen's grave, and it wiped her relationships with other Sims, along with most of the character data and set her as unlinked and 'unknown'. This makes me think that Jeff and Diane Pleasant might have originally been playable, or at least that they were alive almost until the very end of the production.
