The group science project is a reward item in The Sims 3: University Life after reaching level 10 in the science skill and is always present at Sims University. It has many properties within and outside its three interactions, chiefly to add a moodlet to every Sim on the lot where the project is placed.

  • Adjust the Blue Magnatonic Pulse Array: if the project is completed with only this interaction, it causes every sim on the lot to pass out and give the "Power Nap" moodlet for 2 hours. Awake or not, if the moodlet expires the needs of each Sim with it will be fulfilled.
  • Study the Red Pad Tie Node: if the project is completed with only this interaction, it causes every Sim on the lot to obtain the "Uninhibited" moodlet for 4 hours. Though it does not necessarily make each Sim perform the interaction, each Sim with the moodlet would have a chance of autonomously streaking.
  • Interface with the Green Mind Melder Module: if the project is completed with only this interaction, it causes every sim on the lot to obtain the "Hive Mind" moodlet for 6 hours, which increases the rate of skill improvement.

If none of these interactions occur long enough to produce more than 33% of the project's completion, then the beam turns white and causes a meteor shower to occur which. While it does not harm Sims, it will cause collectibles to appear all around the lot.

Along with these special traits, the project also summons homeless Sims, if in the home neighborhood, and fellow students to operate on the machine. Unless directed to, they do not participate in the project's completion despite performing the animations.
