A check to the '''minor edit''' box is intended to signify that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: typo fixes, formatting, or otherwise rearranging text without changing content. A minor edit is a version that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute.

When [[Help:Editing|editing]] a page, there is an option to mark the edit as a '''minor edit'''. This tells other readers and editors that you have made only superficial changes to the page and that it is not controversial. Examples of minor edits include fixing typos, correcting [[Help:Template|template]] usage, fixing formatting, and reverting [[Help:Vandalism|vandalism]]. A minor edit is marked with a bolded '''m''' in the [[Help:Page history|page history]] and on the [[Help:Diff|diff]] of the edit.

An edit marked as minor is signified with a bolded "m" character ('''m''') in the [[Help:Page history|page history]]. Minor edits will also appear with the same bolded "m" in [[:Special:RecentChanges]].

==How When should Ito mark an edit as minor? ==
Below the [[Help:Edit summary|edit summary]] field there is a checkbox that says '{{int:Minoredit}}'. Click on the checkbox before clicking '{{int:Savearticle}}' to mark the edit as a minor edit.
* Spelling corrections
* Simple formatting or grammar correction (capitalisation, et cetera)
* Formatting that doesn't change the meaning of the page (e.g. bolding text, splitting one paragraph into two)
* Obvious factual errors (e.g. changing ''The Beatles' 1866 album'' to ''The Beatles' 1966 album'')
* Fixing layout errors (e.g. changing <nowiki>{template name here}</nowiki> to <nowiki>{{template name here}}</nowiki>
* Adding and correcting wiki links or categories (e.g changing <nowiki>[[Eggsample]]</nowiki> to <nowiki>[[Example]]</nowiki>)
* Removing vandalism and graffiti

You can also use [[Help:Keyboard shortcuts|keyboard shortcuts]] to quickly check the checkbox. The access key for the minor edit checkbox is {{Key|{{int:Accesskey-minoredit}}}}. On Chrome and Firefox, the keyboard shortcut is usually {{Key|Alt}}-{{Key|Shift}}-{{Key|{{int:Accesskey-minoredit}}}}.
=== Things to remember ===
* Any change to the source text ([[Help:Wikitext|wikitext]]), even if it does not affect the presentation of the page in [[Help:HTML|HTML]] (if it involves adding a space or a line break, for example) will still be treated as a change according to the database.
* Marking a major change as a minor one is considered poor etiquette, especially if the change involves the deletion of some text.
* [[Help:Reverting|Reverting]] a page is not likely to be considered minor under most circumstances. When the status of a page is disputed, and particularly if an edit war is brewing, then it is better not to mark ''any'' edit as minor. Reverting blatant vandalism is an exception to this rule.

When filling in the edit summary box, pressing {{Key|Tab}}+{{Key|Space}} will also check the minor edit checkbox.
== Who can mark an edit as minor? ==
Users who are not [[Help:Logging In|logged into]] Fandom are not permitted to mark changes as minor because of the potential for vandalism. The ability to mark changes as minor is [[Help:Create an account|another reason to register]].

==When Who canto mark an edit as minor? ==
An administrator or a user with [[Help:Rollback|rollback]] rights can semi-automatically revert the edits of the last editor of a page; all such "[[Help:Reverting|rollback]]" reversions are marked as minor by the software. This is because the ''cumulative'' effect of the edits and the rollback is zero changes. The intended use of the rollback feature is for cases of vandalism, where the act of reverting any vandalism should be considered minor (and can be ignored in the recent changes list).
* Simple spelling, grammatical, and punctuational changes.
* Simple formatting changes, like capitalization or adding italics to book titles.
* Formatting that doesn't change the meaning of the page, (e.g.like boldingmoving text,an splittingimage oneto paragrapha intodifferent two)part of the page where it makes more sense.
* ObviousFixing obvious factual errors (e.g. changing ''"The Beatles'sky 1866is album''green" to ''"The Beatles'sky 1966is album''blue").
* Correcting [[Help:Link|links]] on the page.
* [[Help:Reverting|Reverting]] or removing obvious [[Help:Vandalism|vandalism]].

It's generally bad taste to mark a major edit as minor. If you are ever in doubt about whether or not you should mark an edit as minor, it's probably best ''not'' to mark it as minor.
{{Help and feedback section}}

If you do accidentally mark an edit as minor, it's never a bad idea to make a second edit after that, such as a [[Help:Dummy edit|dummy edit]], and explain in your [[Help:Edit summary|edit summary]] what happened. Make sure that your second edit changes some content; simply opening the edit window and then saving will not work.

If you ever do get into a disagreement with another editor as to whether or not an edit should've been marked as minor, it is better to talk about it on the [[Help:Talk page|talk page]]. If an [[Project:Edit warring|edit war]] appears to be brewing, it's best not to mark any reverts as minor.

Marking an edit as minor doesn't mean that your changes were somehow less important than major edits. A minor edit just means that your changes were not controversial and that everyone could reasonably agree that they can be unquestioningly kept.

==Other scenarios==

[[Project:Administrator|Administrators]], [[Project:Content moderator|content moderators]] and [[Project:Rollback|rollbackers]] have an extra button called [[Help:Rollback|rollback]] that, when clicked, allows them to quickly revert all consecutive edits made by a user to the last edit not made by that user. This is usually done to revert vandalism. Rollbacks are always marked as a minor edit.

[[pl:Pomoc:Drobne zmiany]]
[[Help:Bot|Bots]] usually mark their edits as minor, since most bots engage in maintenance and not actual content creation.
