The '''lifetime wish''' is Sim's ultimate goal throughout their lives. Sim's lifetime wish is related to the [[Trait (The Sims 3)|traits]] they have. For example, a [[Flirty]] Sim may want to have the Heartbreaker Lifetime Wish. As of ''[[Late Night]]'' or [[The Sims 3/Patch 17|patch 17]], the game allows player to choose any lifetime wish, even if it does not correspond with their traits.
 
It is required for a [[young adult]] or older in [[Create a Sim#The Sims 3|Create a Sim]]. A Sim must choose a lifetime wish during the game when growing up from [[teen]] to young adult. Sometimes, when a [[child]] or teen excels at a certain skill, they will receive a lifetime wish in their wish slot, which they can choose to promise or not. The game will prompt if the player clicks it. If a child or teen picks a lifetime wish, they will not need to pick one when they become a young adult.
 
Once a Sim has completed their Lifetime Wish, they will not be able to choose a new Lifetime Wish via the Change Lifetime Wish reward. If a Sim uses the Change Lifetime Wish reward, the amount of Lifetime Happiness Points on the wish the player changes to is reduced by 10,000.
