There is a magazine for each of the [[hobbies]]. A Sim must reach level 3 [[enthusiasm]] to receive a phone call asking if they would like a subscription. If the Sim does not accept the offer, any Sim in the household who has level 3 enthusiasm in that hobby can use the phone to subscribe at any time. [[Child]]ren and [[young adult]]s who reach level 3 enthusiasm in a hobby will not be offered a subscription, but a child with enough enthusiasm can use the phone to subscribe. Young adults cannot subscribe to the hobby magazines until after they have left [[college]] and become adults. However, since hobby magazines can be placed in inventory and given as gifts, young adults (or teens leaving for college) can take them to campus and read them there.
Once a magazine has been subscribed to, any Sim in the household can use the phone to cancel the subscription at any time. Once a hobby magazine has been delivered, any Sim in the household can read it regardless of their level of enthusiasm in that hobby. Sims, including visitors, may read hobby magazines autonomously. In addition, visitors can be [[influence]]d to read any available hobby magazine, at the cost of 500 influence points. Reading hobby magazines also builds [[Fun]], and if the Sim's Fun meter is full or nearly full, he or she is likely to pick up the magazine, glance at it, and put it down, which will have little if any effect on enthusiasm.
